How to Save Money at Meadow Wood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great great animal hospital. We really have only used them once so far. They did what they could for our dog, before ultimately having to put him down. The Veterinarian was very compassionate and empathetic with us. They took care of everything for us. This will be our go to Vet for the rest of our animals while we're in the area.

This review is for Dr. Fiorillo. My Chihuahua's face started swelling and his eyes turned red, it started getting bad pretty quickly and he had never had a reaction like this. Our normal vet did not answer the after hours line so I started calling other clinics. I called just about every vet in Lawton and no one would help him, saying they only accept emergency appointments for their current patients. Finally, I reached a clinic that suggested Meadow Wood. I called and got to speak to Dr. Fiorillo who agreed to help. He immediately knew Arrow was having an allergic reaction, gave him some shots and upon returning home his face is already a million times better. Thank you very much for helping my Arrow. My dogs are very much my children, and I'm very grateful you answered. Thank you Meadow Wood, Dr. Fiorillo, and the great tech that helped us.

We as parents of our kids when choosing a doctor look for kind, caring, gentle and in case of an emergency that will be there and ready to assist. In my opinion, cost is not what most people think of when choosing a doctor. We just want our kids to be taken care of. My doctor for all of my kids is Dr Joe Kien at Gore West. He offers after hours service, however when Rusty needed him on 6/30/22 @ 8:30pm, he wasn't available. Early in the day Rusty saw Dr Kien for his annual check up and received his yearly vaccinations, but 5hrs later he had a seizure. So I called Meadow Wood and spoke to Dr Jackson and we came in for emergency services. When we arrived Kara and Dr Jackson met us at the door and promptly took Rusty to the exam room. I'm a long haul truck driver and Rusty has been to and seen more places and gone pee in in more places than most humans will ever experience in their life. I, Rusty and his brother Rascal were involved in violent accident 2yrs ago where the wind blew us over and we all survived without a scratch. I have almost 4 million miles under my belt in 28yrs and for 13yrs of that time Rascal and Rusty have been with me. I have no idea why he had a seizure much less what even caused it. Rusty was full of life, playful and loved to snuggle. Dr Jackson did everything he could to stop the seizures but not even the strongest medication was helping. Kara was a champion at keeping my son from twisting up while he was seizing but yet making it look so comfortable for Rusty. Side note, Rascal also received his annual vaccinations at the same time Rusty did and Rascal is 2yrs older with a slight heart murmur. So I don't really know why Rusty had a seizure. If I were a new parent to the area I would DEFINITELY want Dr Jackson and Kara to be the team that I took my kids to, especially if there were an emergency.

Highly recommend Meadow Wood Animal hospital. My pet had not been seen by them in a few years because I travel a lot and they were able to work me in and get my pet seen in a timely manner. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, doctors, and management. I wouldn’t want anyone else to care for my fur babies when needed.

This vet and hospital staff took amazing care of my puppy when she got sick with Parvo and saved her life. She was in the hospital for about 2 weeks and they gave me almost daily updates on her condition. This is the only vet in Lawton I will use after trying others and not having great experiences. They are great for boarding as well.
