How to Save Money at Animal Specialty Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Ho took her time explaining my cat, Zorro’s treatment options to me. She devised a treatment plan after our discussion. Dr. Ho is up to date with all the latest technologies and treatment methods and is very caring. Kudos to Dr. Ho’s assistant, Briana. She is knowledgeable and caring. The entire staff that I interacted with are kind and courteous. I recommend ASC fully and without reservation!

This is the best animal hospital! My baby was very sick and her chances of survival weren’t looking too good. Within 3 days, they had her stabilized, and a majority of her levels back to normal! She’s now home and back to her loving self as if nothing happened. The staff were very loving and respectful. They made my girl feel like a superstar when she was there lol. If your pet stays there, they will give you updates at least two times a day and you can call to check in on them or with any questions you have. They also make sure your pet is very comfortable and feels safe. The nurses gave my baby a comfy bed she loves and a nice blanket during her stay. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone. Thank you for nursing Roxy back to health! We are forever grateful for everyone’s efforts💜 🐾

We took our teacup Yorkie to see Dr. Sarah Gutierrez this past week and Dr. Gutierrez is the most caring, intelligent vet we have encountered. Dr. Gutierrez listened, had great bed-side manners, and gave a clear diagnosis with options. Such a gift for pet owners to have someone so honest and caring in this profession. We would not hesitate to come back and give the highest recommendation possible. Beyond 5 stars ! Thank you Dr. Gutierrez, from the bottom of our hearts, Jimmy, Judy and our furbaby, Juju!

I came in with my dog who was pushed to the bottom of the wait list. Adrianna who was at the front desk had a very poor, unprofessional, and distasteful approach to her customer service. With waiting for 5 hours each time I spoke with her it was very distasteful. I am in visible distress as my dog Marshmallow was infested with fleas, biting into her paws and nose which started to bleed which then also lead to her crying. I begged for my dog to be seen several times where in which Adrianna mentioned being that it wasn’t a severe emergency, my dog would be seen last. She told me on numerous occasions that if it were a big deal I could just take my dog else where, after waiting for 5 hours I expressed to her my impatience and distress with the situation she mentioned “Well, others have waited longer”! I’m sure that Adrianna’s attitude and actions go against the values, pillars, and standards of this clinic. My hope is that her behavior is addressed! My dog sat on concrete for 2 hours with a laundry crate over her before I raised concerns and they offered to bring her in and make her comfortable. This is very inhumane and I hope that other dogs don’t have to experience being in humidity on concrete as mine was. This is unacceptable and I hope that this review/complaint is addressed accordingly

Always a superb experience here. Welcoming and caring staff. Treatment options always explained thoroughly. Staff goes above and beyond. Had a question about my pet’s meds at 3:30 in the morning, and they were there to answer my call and very helpful. Two of my pups have had spinal surgeries here, which have allowed them to live pain-free lives. Highly recommend this practice.
