How to Save Money at VERG Brooklyn
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our experience at VERG Brooklyn’s 24-hour emergency room was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with kindness and professionalism. The staff was not only polite and welcoming, but they immediately made us feel seen and supported in a stressful moment. The facility itself was beautiful—spotlessly clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully equipped with snacks and water for pet parents who are anxiously waiting. It’s clear they care not just for the animals but for their humans, too. The waiting time wasn’t bad at all, especially considering we came in for an emergency. Everything moved smoothly, and we never felt forgotten or ignored. One of the hardest moments was when I had to leave my baby boy behind to have his open wound re-stitched. It was heartbreaking to walk away, but the doctor took the time to sit with me, explain the procedure, and reassure me that he was in the best hands. Their calm and compassionate demeanor helped me breathe a little easier. I was both excited and nervous to see him again the next day—but mostly relieved, knowing he had received the care he needed. A heartfelt thank you to VERG Brooklyn’s 24-hour emergency team for being there when we needed you most. You helped my baby boy get the treatment he needed, and I’ll always be grateful.

My 1 year old puppy Indigo recently had surgery for an intestinal blockage. This was one of the scariest moments for me. Coming to verg made the worst case situation the best outcome. I will never forget how kind, helpful, and loving every single person was. The front desk, nurses, doctors, surgeons, discharge, and finance department all deserves a medal for their bedside manners. They really work case to case with each pet. Indigo is not great with strangers touching him and can be reactive. They let me pick him up a day early after his 2 day hospital stay because they knew he would recover better at home with me. That meant the world to me that I could go get my baby and he wouldn’t be scared. I will never forget the exceptional care we received here. I am a very anxious person and having the doctors explain everything so clearly really calmed me down. They are so compassionate and great at what they do. He has been recovering for a little over 2 weeks and is thriving thanks to the exceptional care verg provided. Please thank everyone from us. Because of you guys, Indigo is still around!

I waited to write this review because I wanted to include a positive update about how my baby is doing many months out! Over Christmas I had to deal with a real nightmare - my cat Piper developed bladder stones and needed immediate care and attention due to the situation escalating quickly, on Christmas Day nonetheless! Dr Michalik was there on December 25th with compassion and dedication, fully showing up for both me and Piper! He was able to help Piper by flushing out the stones, and giving me some critical extra time to decide next steps since everything happened so fast. He was a clear communicator about my options, what I could expect, and how to best help Piper. The facility itself is clean, open, and inviting. It can get busy (but it was empty on Christmas…) but it is run well regardless. They even have snacks and water in the front if you’re there for a while. It was a nice touch considering I hadn’t eaten all day and I was a mess. I ultimately decided to get the surgery for Piper and VERG front desk staff was great about communicating how they could make that happen (they had less vet staff on hand due to the winter holidays), scheduling the procedure as soon as they were able, and also working out financials with me like I was an actual human being. I always felt respected and cared for, which made me feel significantly better giving my cat Piper over to their care. Dr Nicoletta performed the surgery to fully remove the bladder stones, and he was a great communicator before and after the procedure, answering all of my absurd and specific questions without hesitation. I am immensely grateful for his expertise and help to improve Piper’s health. I just had a follow-up at my regular vet and 6 months later, Piper’s bladder is still looking great and with her special diet food, so far no new bladder stones have formed and everything looks great! It was tough to drop Piper off and leave her completely in their care while being unable to stop by whenever I wanted, but I knew she was in the best care she could possibly be. I received frequently email updates about financial matters, as well as calls from staff and the doctor to let me know how Piper was doing, at least once a day until she was home. I’m happy with that level of communication because I want them to spend time with my baby, not on the phone with me! Thank you so much to all of the staff and everyone who makes things run here. God forbid if I’m ever in an emergency situation again, or if someone I know needs to take their pet to the ER, this is the first place I’m going without any hesitation.

I brought River to Verg when he got really sick a few years ago. Dr. Cook treated him and was very sweet. She referred River to Dr. Cohen once he was diagnosed with small lymphoma. Dr. Cohen and her team were amazing with my sweet boy. She did everything she could to treat his cancer. He saw Dr. Cohen and her team till the very end. Very warm and compassionate people. They all went by when nothing else could be done for my boy and were very compassionate. I received a very nice condolence card from them. Thank you to Dr. Cohen and her team for the extra time I got with my baby. He really was in great hands when he was there.

Our beloved kitty of 16 years had to be put down. The staff at this place were kind, sympathetic and caring. The place was well kept and clean. Tho there was a bit of a wait, it is a hospital, and like any hospital, it is to be expected. I know there are a lot of 1 stars about the wait, but as I said, it is a hospital. Within a week, we got an email that her ashes had been delivered back to Verg and once again, the staff were very caring and friendly. I would definitely recommend this animal hospital.
