How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Park Slope Veterinary Care

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I visited this veterinary clinic recently for my newly adopted kitten's routine check-up. Despite their diagnosis of a URI and subsequent antibiotic treatment, my kitten's health worsened. Repeated attempts with antibiotics and a costly recommendation for x-rays followed, yet my kitten's condition did not improve. This led to the development of ringworm due to his compromised immune system. Seeking a second opinion, I turned to another veterinary clinic which provided effective treatment without requiring x-rays. This experience prompted concerns about the clinic's priorities, suggesting a focus on financial aspects over animal well-being. In my view, the clinic's emphasis appeared to be skewed towards financial interests, potentially overshadowing genuine care for animals. I believe that compassionate care should be paramount in any veterinary practice. My hope is that this feedback encourages the clinic to review their approach, ensuring animals' welfare remains a top priority.

Over almost 17 years I took my dog, Nellie to this excellent practice. Dr Madden and his team gave excellent care and treatment up to the very end. Many times on a moments notice for a senior dog. Extra kind care as we had to put her down, a time that is never easy.

at first the staff were nice but as soon as we were told the medical bill for our cat ($3,000+) their mood switched up. when explaining to them our money situation was low they never offered alternative care unless asked, and still were upset. their top priority feels more centered towards money than tending to your pet. if you dont have enough money then theres a "best of luck" attitude. we went over to the ASPCA instead and they gave us full treatment (IV, catheter, medicine, overnight stay, & food) for $125 as opposed to the $3,000. makes me feel as if the treatment is the same why would it cost more? i highly suggest if its an emergency & you make under $50k then choice the ASPCA ❤️ best of luck and prayers to anyone's pet who is needing severe care. pets health comes first before $$$

I'm disappointed to see all the negative reviews for this vet. They're extremely knowledgeable and know what they're doing. Most of these 1 star reviews are pathetic personal feelings unrelated to the service. Things such as "they charged me for a consultation." What do you think happens when you go to the doctor? Seriously people. "They never followed up to check on my dog", they're extremely busy and see so many dogs every day. That's a bit of a ridiculous ask. I understand it's your dog, and you want the best for it. But its certainly not their dog, nor does seeing your dog for an hour to even 2 hours leave enough of a lasting impression for them to have the time given their volume to call you to check on your dog. If something is wrong, then you call. It's not their job to call you. Dr. Maddon is the best vet I've ever been to. I'd never bring my dogs anywhere else. EVER.

Always have had good interactions with staff and Vet. Dr Madden is a Bulldog lover and always helps my VIKKI when needed. Some may feel it’s a little pricey but for the care and knowledge of staff I think it’s worth it and also get pet insurance
