How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

We have been taking our pets to Gentle Doctor for years. We recently had a scare with our older dog and needed an ultrasound. Dr. Krapfl was informative, concise, and deeply compassionate throughout testing, monitoring and the diagnosis. We are deeply grateful to him and all the staff at Gentle Doctor who truly cares about our pet and us through this process. From the routine checks to the hard visits, we trust them for our veterinary needs.

Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital has been an incredible place for my dogs over the years. All three of my pets have received amazing care from their friendly and compassionate staff. They truly go above and beyond, adding personal touches like writing my dogs’ names on adorable bags that make us feel so special. With multiple locations nearby, it’s always convenient, and scheduling appointments, even on short notice. The team at Gentle Doctor consistently shows their dedication to both pets and owners. They’ve helped me set up payment plans and even suggested non-medical treatments to make care more affordable. Their flexibility in accommodating last-minute visits or medicine pick-ups, even on Saturdays, is something I truly appreciate. Every interaction proves how much they value their clients and their beloved animals. Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital has been a lifesaver for my family, and I wholeheartedly recommend them. Their knowledgeable vets and caring staff truly set them apart. They’re simply the best.

I am very disappointed and, after six years of bringing both of my cats here, I will be taking my business elsewhere. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE REVIEW. On May 20, I brought my cat in because I knew he had eaten a ribbon. Dr. Nick Hayes performed X-rays and a barium study to determine whether there was an obstruction. I was told that the results did not show anything alarming and that my cat would likely pass anything he may have swallowed on his own. The cost of these tests was approximately $700. Four days later, on May 24, my cat became seriously ill and had to be rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital. Within minutes, the emergency team was able to identify a 16-inch ribbon on an X-ray. My cat required immediate emergency surgery to remove it, resulting in an additional expense of more than $3,000. Thankfully, the surgery was successful and saved my cat's life. However, what concerns me is that the ribbon was not identified during the original visit despite the testing that was performed. When I called Dr. Hayes to inform him of what had happened, his response was essentially that they have been seeing more cases where barium studies do not detect everything. While I understand that no diagnostic test is perfect, I was disappointed by the lack of accountability, concern, or meaningful explanation of "why" regarding a situation that nearly cost my cat his life. I am not expecting a refund. However, after being a loyal client for six years, I would have appreciated a sincere apology, acknowledgment of the situation, or some gesture of goodwill. THE REASON I AM LEAVING IS SIMPLE: I NO LONGER FEEL CONFIDENT TRUSTING MY PETS' CARE TO A CLINIC WHERE I MAY NEED TO SEEK A SECOND OPINION ELSEWHERE FOR SERIOUS MEDICAL CONCERNS. I HOPE SHARING MY EXPERIENCE HELPS OTHER PET OWNERS MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS.
