How to Save Money at Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From the moment we stepped into the clinic, we were greeted with warmth and compassion by the friendly staff. The clinic's cleanliness and organized setup immediately put us at ease. Dr. Sydney Thorson’s exceptional expertise and genuine care for animals left a lasting impression on us. She went above and beyond to explain our pet's lab and diagnostic results in a thorough and understandable manner. Her empathy and compassion during this challenging time, as our cat (Loki) battles cancer, have been truly remarkable. We can genuinely sense that Dr. Sydney Thorson loves what she does, and it reflects in the attention and love she showered upon our beloved pet. She understood our emotions and concerns, offering unwavering support throughout the process. Our family is immensely grateful to the entire team for their outstanding care and compassion. We wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking exceptional veterinary care for their furry friends. Thank you once again for making a difference in our pet's life and providing us with the reassurance that he is receiving the best possible care.

On July 18 my wife and I took our, now considered a senior, dog in for his annual. Our little guy does NOT like slippery surfaces, so we asked the tech for a towel to put down on the exam table. When Dr. B came in to do the exam, he seemed to have an angry demeanor that day, and my wife and I both picked up on it right away. During the exam, our guy was very nervous and scared, and Dr. B did nothing to comfort him. In fact, in my opinion, he was a bit brash with him. After seeing him wrangle with our dog, my wife picked our dog up to settle his nerves down a bit. Before she put him back down on the slippery exam table, she laid the towel down and put our dog on the towel. Again, the fight to finish the exam began and our guy was so scared. He moved off the towel, and as my wife was trying to put the towel back underneath our dog, Dr. B aggressively yanked the towel off the exam table and threw it to the side and said “get rid of the towel.” I lost respect for Dr. B after that visit and did not appreciate him manhandling our scared dog. After doing our due diligence, we have found another vet office who shows care and compassion for our nervous guy.

My dog and I had a great experience with Gentle Doctor. I called and made a same day appointment and prior to booking anything, they tried to offer help over the phone. When I brought my dog in they were very warm and friendly. I really felt like they were listening and giving my dog the best care possible. Only one other vet has treated him without a muzzle and I appreciated their ability to keep him comfortable and calm. I will definitely be making Good Doctor my primary vet!

Can't recommend more. We made an appointment at a different location, but got the appointment at this location by honest mistake and won't go anywhere else. The entire staff is the sweetest and most attentive of any business of any type we've ever dealt with. Pricing is very reasonable and Dr. Thorson is very thorough and personable. Our little puppy loved everyone there.
