How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t say enough incredible things about Dr. Goff and her amazing team. I came in with my puppy Mila during an emergency situation, and from the moment I walked through the door, I was met with warmth, compassion, and a calming presence that I desperately needed. Dr. Goff’s bedside manner is unmatched—she cares deeply, leads with compassion, and her knowledge and love for animals truly shine through. It’s clear she’s doing this work from the heart, and Mila and I felt that in every moment. A special thank you to Dajuana and Danielle at the front desk—absolute sweethearts who instantly made me feel supported and at ease. Danielle advocated for Mila and Dajuana was on her hands and knees giving my baby attention—And to Leslie, the vet tech, thank you for your gentle, reassuring care and for treating Mila as if she were your own- you get 10/10 stars. You assessment was through and well done. You were a true light in a stressful moment. Mila and I are beyond blessed to have found Dr. Goff and her incredible team. Thank you all for going above and beyond—you turned a terrifying experience into one filled with comfort and hope.

Extremely frustrated with my service here today, provided by Banfield in Cotswold. They told me my dog was ready for pick up and then released other dogs and made me wait for 30 minutes. When I finally do get him I was told to get a prescription dog food but the doctor who say him gave him a shot and said if the shot doesn’t clear up his allergies then to get the dog food so I had them go back and ask the doctor and she said now I need to buy it? Feels like they weren’t reviewing notes or actually paying attention at all to me or my dog. Super displeased with my visit today. Would go back to Banfield but will avoid this location due to carelessness.

A lot of complaints in the reviews. But Not Here! 🙌🙌🙌 Been with this Banfield for 8yrs. The entire staff loves my dog and my dog loves them. He never wants to leave. Front desk employees have been nothing but amazing. Dr. Davis, Dr. Sprattling, and especially Dr. Goff have been amazing Vets.

My kitten had become very sick and we could not find a vet who could help her or figure out what was wrong. Luckily, we made the decision to go to Banfield and had Dr. Cowell who helped us to discover what was wrong with my Brie. She was diagnosed with Panleuk which was scary but due to the advice from Dr. Cowell and staff I was able to give her the care that she needed and since has become back to her normal self and is like the sickness never even happened. Dr. Cowell definitely saved my babies life!

Ive been using this pet hospital for 4 years, Most of the staff are very nice, but for them to be a "pet hospital" they aren't very knowledgeable, and dont have any allergy options other than Apoquel, Cytopoint, or an expensive prescription food. When you set up an account they lock you in with Autodraft, and if you dont have it they charge you a $20 late fee. The payment is $67.00, and they charge 1/3rd of that as a late fee! On top of being super expensive!! Oh and if you sign your pet up for a plan you have to pay it for a year even if your pet dies!!! It's a scam to get money with very little actual medical advice! The amount of "guessing" that's done is crazy work for the amount they charge.
