How to Save Money at Emergency Vets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at E Vets. I called on our way and they were extremely helpful and attentive to our boy. We walked in and were immediately taken back to a private room. They attended to us and had our Tucker evaluated within 5 minutes of being in their care. Their staff was welcoming, compassionate and more than understanding to our little boy. They gave us several plans for treatment but never made us feel uneasy about a decision we knew we could only make for him. Not only did they let us talk for hours, alone as his parents, but never made us feel like we had to decide quickly. They were sincere, understanding and gracious as we made one of the hardest decisions of our lives. Because of their staff and the care we endured, we know he’s in a better place, running in circles with never ending love. We could not express our gratitude to you guys enough. Though it may have been the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make, I’m thankful we had you guys with us during this time.

Terrible emergency visit. They made us wait for 2 hours to not even tell me what was wrong with my dog. She had got into some poison and was throwing up blood and they couldn’t even tell me out of 5 possibilities what it might be. I am not a vet and I knew it wasn’t half of the options they were telling me it could be. Just trying to make me spend as much money as possible!!!! I had to bother them to give her some medicine they let us sit in the waiting room while I watched my dog shake and throw up blood. And then wouldn’t even treat her til we paid. Waisted so much time when the poor baby could have been helped sooner

I never expected my emergency visit to end in making the decision to let my kitty baby go ... the staff was kind and answered all of my questions and were so patient with me the whole time ... they explained the whole process and what to expect ... it was the hardest day of my life, but their kindness made it somewhat easier. I know they did everything they could for him. They sent the sweetest card a few days later with his little paw prints. I will cherish them forever. And thank you to Wendy for talking to me on the phone afterward and making me feel more at peace with the decision that was made. It takes a special kind of person to do the work they do day in and out.

My dog Peaux has been battling with an Insulinoma we found out a week and a half ago. Since then, we have been trying to do everything we can to try and keep his blood sugar from bottoming out. It is a VERY VERY difficult thing to do, and come to find out, there is a lot of trial and error with it trying to get the medicines he needs just right. Doctor Landon Fraizer is my personal vet, and his wife Ellen Frazier has helped us as well! They are BY FAR the BEST VETS anyone could ever ask for! Their bedside manor is also the BEST I have ever experienced! They don't just act nice. They are genuinely sincere with you and will treat you like family! I am so beyond grateful for all of the assistance that they've been giving me for my dog Peaux Geaux Stix!!! I called just a few minutes ago because we have been struggling this morning. Keeping Peaux's blood sugar up. I called to see if I could speak to either Dr. Landon, or Dr. Ellen. Mary is the person who answered the phone when I called. When I tell you she was the kindest person with the most sincerity, I kid you not. She was so genuinely helpful and you could tell that she loves her job and she cares about the people and the pets. Mary deserves a raise because she is going above and beyond in her job! Thank you so much, Mary, for being so kind to me when I was so out of my wits. I would give them 10 stars if I could!!!!

I can't say enough about these wonder people. My little dog spent several nights in their care, and they were so kind to us. She is home now living the good life. Thank you so much.
