How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Recently, I had to make the most selfless decision we humans have to make concerning our loved fur babies. After 13 years, my beloved Lily was losing quality of life and as much as I wanted to keep her with me, I knew I had to let her go. I began to search for a vet who would do a home visit but after not being able to find one, I searched for local hospitals and made an appointment with the first one Google suggested. I had no previous experience with Banfield, I did not even know they were located in PetSmart. I was reeling from heartbreak and I just wanted to get making this call over with. The woman who made my appointment was incredibly compassionate as she was dealing with me in my heightened emotional state. She said there was nothing she could say and if there was, she would say it. But she was correct. No one could say anything to make this better. Fast forward to the dreaded day, the staff I dealt with continued their compassion. One of the ladies had just went through this with her fur child and she had tears in her eyes as she was talking me through it. Lily was handled with care and love during her last moments. Even as I laid on the floor with her with her head pressed against my chest and a puddle of tears began to pool under us, the doctor did what she had to do and left us be. I had to wait a period of time before I picked her ashes up but I now have Lily back at home. I was not expecting her to come home with anything extra but was extremely touched to receive her in a beautifully engraved urn, a certificate honoring her cremation, her paw print, and a card that featured her nose and paw print. To top it all off, the staff took their time and each signed the card offering their personalized sympathy and support. In this day and age, hand written notes are a thing of the past. As an old soul, I found this to be the absolute sweetest thing. So if and when you find yourself having to walk the same walk I just have, I cannot recommend Banfield Pet Hospital in Gulfport enough. Professional, humane, and really caring people work here and will do what they can to provide a little light in an otherwise dark time. Also, the manager at PetSmart who actually gave me Lily as Banfield was closed was extremely sympathetic while offering his condolences. Please hug your fur children a little tighter for me today. And if you are in the market for pet care or end of life care, consider Banfield and PetSmart in Gulfport. (I wish I could recall all the names of these amazing employees but suffice to say, I was too lost in my own grief. From the notes they wrote, Charlottte, Ashton, Betsy, Britni, Miranda, Armida/Armuda?, Melissa, and Dr. RPBaylor?, thank you all so much. And to the male night shift manager that worked last night, 5/21/2025, (Leo? Levi?) thank you also.).

We use the puppy care plan. It is wonderful. They care for my puppy as if she were their own. All of the vaccines are given, and her record is kept and shared with me on the app.

Had the worst experience today at this pet hospital. I actually have a care plan with them and was scheduled for a routine checkup today. I specifically told the nurse that I did not want my dog to have any vaccines or be administered anything today. I even wrote "No" on the form. I specifically inform them that I did not want my dog to have anything today. The form that has to be filled out that acts about deworming medicine I wrote no on there but they still decided to administer it to her anyway. She threw up while there, right before I picked her up. Once I picked her up she threw up profusely in my car and she had very loose diarrhea. Dr. Bayles seem to not care at all when we were on the phone, to find out why my dog was having these reactions in such a short amount of time just leaving the pet hospital. She wanted to mention that she had 30 years of experience, but yet failed to review a form that specifically declined the deworming medication. They gave it to her anyway SMH. Now I have throw up and diarrhea all over the backseat of my car. In most cases when a dog reacts that quickly to medication that means that the body rejected it and she would need for another dose and we are not doing that!!! They really need to be more attentive, they're so busy but really need to pay more attention to detail!!
