How to Save Money at VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital and Pet Lodge
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They honestly do it because they care!! I love the staff there. Thank you for everything you did for my cat 😺 and myself this morning. You will not go unrecognized. God bless all of you at VCA Parkcrest Animal Hospital!

I’ve never left a bad review before, but felt in this scenario it was necessary. We took our two cats in, already under the impression that they had ringworm considering one of them is a kitten. I was surprised when the Doctor sent us home claiming that it was just stress related and even checked it with a black light and still said it was not ringworm. Our cat continued to get worse, losing hair all over his face and grew a total of 16 spots. We have 4 people who live in the same house as the cat and we all got multiple spots of ringworm on our bodies. After our cat was not getting better, we took him to a different vet which claimed from first look it was 100% ringworm and confirmed it with the blacklight. Their misdiagnosis has cause our cats’ condition to become extremely worse and gave all 4 of us owners multiple spots of ringworm to pay and treat for as well. I called for some sort of refund considering all the expenses the misdiagnosis caused us, and thankfully we were given back $76 from a $200 vet bill. While on the phone with them, they told us that “for future reference we recommend only one doctor.” Yet, if we had done that, we would have never gotten the right diagnosis and his condition would have gotten even worse. This has cause us much heartache beyond what I have written, but I hope that this will save someone else the time and heartache that easily could have been avoided in our case.

Yesterday was one of the toughest days I've ever faced. I had to say goodbye to my golden girl, Seah, because I couldn't bear to see her in pain any longer. I really wish I could remember the names of the two women who cared for her and ensured she was comfortable before we let her rest. I'm so thankful I found this vet clinic; I know that if I had gone anywhere else, they wouldn't have shown the same level of compassion and care for both my cat and I. They gave us all the time we needed and thoroughly explained all our options, which helped me make the best decision for my girl's wellbeing. I won't go anywhere else for my pets' care in the future. Thank you.

Dr. Hanson is a great Veterinarian and he has always made my experience pleasant. However, for a routine wellness exam, 3 vaccines and a heartworm test it cost $321 dollars! I have 20 plus years experience working in the veterinary field and it was customary to advise clients of what the total cost would be prior to providing the service. I am also aware of how much those vaccines cost them. I was not expecting such a mark up. In addition, I witnessed one of the receptionists talk negative about a client when she got off the phone and continued to complain and make comments that I didn't need to hear. I know this won't change anything for me but I think other potential clients should know
