How to Save Money at Marymont Animal Hospital Inc

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Was looking for a new Vet and couldn’t be happier than the service I got at Marymont. After the pandemic it was hard to get a new Vet as many clinics weren’t accepting new clients. That was not the case with Marymont. Brought my Pomeranian in for yearly shots and boosters and was pleasantly surprised by the prices. Highly recommend!!

We’ve been bringing our two dogs to Marymont for a few years now, but primarily just for routine care (because thankfully that’s all our pups have needed) until recently when we’ve been working with Drs Meyer and Martini to try and pinpoint the source of some changes in one of our dog’s gait. Throughout this process, both doctors have been very thorough in explaining the possibilities and laying out all our options, and when I call to speak with the vet, they always call me back the same day, or within 24 hours, even often calling after hours when I know they’d probably rather be at home than answering client calls. They don’t immediately jump to the most expensive or invasive option or push for treatment that seems unreasonably aggressive, and I trust that they know what they’re talking about. The vet techs and front desk staff are always helpful and treat us with compassion and courtesy, and they’re generally able to get us in very quickly when we call for an appointment. Given the state of vet med in the DC area (aka all the vets are dealing with huge demand and packed appointment schedules), I REALLY appreciate this. They have also always been responsive when we need prescription medications, or documentation for pet insurance claims. The price of care is very reasonable for this area, as well. I love that they have separate waiting rooms for cats and dogs, and a separate exit door that leads right out into the parking lot. My dog is somewhat offended by the presence of the bird in the dog waiting room but that’s a personal problem he’s working through, and after a couple of visits, he seems to have mostly given up his vendetta and moved on. No vet is perfect, as no business is, and we’ve had a few snags in years past, but we trust Marymont to take care of our very beloved rescue dogs, and we would strongly recommend them to anyone seeking quality veterinary care for their pets.

It pains me to do this review with such low stars. We’ve been coming to this Vet for over 12 years! Recently we had to put one is our dogs down and this vet team was fantastic. However, the amount of time you can be on hold is beyond the professional time. Today I think this just broke the last straw. I had to call for my other pet and had been on hold for 5min and decided to hang up and call back - maybe the front desk person forgot about me? It’s happened before. However when I called back she put me back immediately on hold, I waited another 3 minutes and by then I realized I had been on hold for over 8 minutes!!!! I called back and instead of the lady explaining to me why I’m on hold she immediately put me back on hold! This experience is very, very disappointing. It pains me to say that although I love both of the Vets in the practice and their vet assistances, their receptionist staff are very unprofessional, not sure it’s worth the hassle to have to go through receptionist to get to vets, not sure I want to go back at all with my pet there!

I've been bringing my menagerie there for 29 years. I have experienced 2 and soon 3 generations of quality care. They are an honest family run operation, who understand animals. And, tolerate pet owners.
