How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Unfortunately it was time for my mom's dog to be put down. She couldn't walk anymore as her back legs just gave out. My mom didn't have a regular vet and finding a vet to come out to the house was difficult. I found urgentvet online and it looked like a good option. The dog was large enough so that riding in a car would be uncomfortable, plus she had oozing sores on her legs. I rented a uhaul van and put some towels in the back. The dog rode quite comfortably to urgentvet where they took me to the side door to the special room so I could get the dog right in. It was much nicer than I expected. A large rug, big pet bed, and a chair and couch in the bright and cheery room. I sat with the dog for a while as we waited for our turn. The techs and vet were incredibly nice and explained what was going to happen. We had enough time in the room that Darby, the dog, was fully calm and relaxed, laying on the rug. It was a very peaceful process and probably the best a bad situation could be. I completely recommend urgentvet and hopefully don't have to go there soon for end of life care, but I wouldn't hesitate taking my cat there if I needed a fast vet visit.

We went to UrgentVet when I noticed my kitty had ingested a string and it was coming out her rectum. It was so nice to have the urgent care option as all the other emergency hospitals were full or understaffed. They got us into a room quickly. The staff were extremely kind and put us at ease. They communicated the plan clearly and gave us options in case emergency surgery was needed. Thankfully the veterinarian was able to sedate my kitty and pull the string out without any harm done! They took X-rays to ensure there was no obstruction. They even stayed a little late to ensure my kitty was taken care of. Thank you all at UrgentVet!

We experienced a terrifying accident with our 10-month-old lab when a seat belt got caught in his paw, requiring sedation and laceration surgery. It all happened so quickly, and we were in a state of panic. I called this amazing clinic because they were the closest to us at the time, and they immediately met us at the door, helping my distressed puppy inside. Once they assessed the situation, they explained the plan right away. The response was swift, and they showed so much love and care for my pup. Everything was clear and easy to understand, and they made sure to address every one of my questions and concerns before we left. This was my first ER visit with a puppy, and although I was incredibly stressed and upset, the team was phenomenal and so supportive. Dr. Rodgers was kind, attentive, and very personable, as was the entire staff assisting him. Despite the awful circumstances, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I’m truly grateful! Kai loved this team. 🩵

All the vets and techs were so compassionate and kind. They answered our questions and gave us a clear care plan for our cat. They took amazing care of her! We would definitely come back (although hopefully we don't need to) 🤗

The staff was so kind and extremely educated when it came to my pets care. They made me feel comfortable and helped alleviate my stress/anxiety while my dog was under anesthesia. They even made a follow up call to see how he was doing. If anything happens again (hopefully not) we will be taking them back.
