How to Save Money at Premier Veterinary Group - Mundelein

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to bring our older dog here last Sunday because he was unexpectedly sick and this was the only open place we could find who would take us. At the start they suggested running tests and keeping him overnight which would’ve been expensive and all exploratory. After trying some simpler routes first we ended up learning it would be in best interest to put our dog down. They laid out all of our options and we never felt forced to do one or the other. The doctor and supporting staff couldn’t have been kinder. They set us up (there were 3 of us) in a large comfy room where we were able to sit with our boy until we were ready. We rang a bell and they came in to take his pain away but we all got to be with him which really meant a lot to us. Afterwards we were allowed to take him home and they put him in a dignity bag and loaded him into the car for us. After running tests, trying some drugs, and putting him down it all cost less than expected which was also a relief considering how unexpected this was. They didn’t pressure us or rush us to a decision either, they were very respectful about giving us space to talk through it amongst ourselves. Since then they have called to check in on us and sent us a card expressing their condolences. Can’t reiterate enough how much we appreciate their kindness and you can see they truly care about the animals and their owners who come in. The facility was very nice, spacious, and clean. Thank you all for helping our Dallas find peace and being so patient and kind with us through the process. Including some pictures of him too ❤️

It's never a fun night when you have to go to the emergency vet, but I can't express enough how grateful I am for this clinic. The staff were kind, courteous, and prompt. The entire office is immaculate. They were fair in their assessment and did not try to push for any testing or medication beyond what was necessary, which wound up only being the consult fee I was made aware of when I got there. Happy to say my baby kitten is thriving, and though I hope I never have to, this will always be my first choice for emergency veterinary services. Also, the terror was almost worth the insanely cute discharge findings.

You know, they say your pet is your baby watching my baby go through an excruciating attack ending up with a puncture a hole in the back of his neck and on his ear was the worst thing possible that I could ever experience in my life when I walked into Premier after being turned away by another emergency care facility, I did not know what to expect. However, the nurse came right out, looked at him, took my baby and back, and they immediately started to look him over to be able to talk with me and let me know what needed to be done. The doctor came out. Explain to me what he wanted to see done what the best course of action was in order to fix the damage made me feel comfortable And promised that we’re gonna take care of my baby and treat him With every ounce of care that they have all I can say is doctor Rea Truly did a remarkable job and put my baby on the path to healing.

Great experience. Everyone was so kind and gentle with my dog. I was given treatment options and a detailed explanation of what is recommended. They even forwarded all the tests and information to our regular vet. Highly recommend them! My doggie feels better and is resting now.

Absolutely recommend. About a month ago our puppy fell very ill and was extremely lethargic, vomiting, coughing and lungs sounded full of fluid, fever, and diarrhea. We honestly thought we were going to lose her. They took care of her until they closed and referred us to another good hospital for overnight. The doctor was kind, informative and reassuring when we needed it most. During the hardest time they helped our Nova. We deeply thank everyone who helped our girl get better! Like I said this was a couple weeks ago and she is doing amazing now! Hope you got my thank you card in the mail :)
