How to Save Money at Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Care Animal Hospital is reliable and caring. The office staff are quick to respond and do what they can to help. The doctors at Care are professional, knowledgeable and considerate. Everyone at Care treat my dogs like royalty. I’ve taken my two dogs here for over 10 years now. I’ve gone to many other vets as I’ve moved around a lot but Care is the best and I often drive over an hour to go here. For emergencies, most vets won’t see you for 1-2 weeks or tell you to go to the ER ($$$) but Care always gets me in same day. I recently had to put my first angel down at this vet and they were very kind and made the process as easy as possible. The prices are high but the service they provide is worth it. Highly recommend!

We have a 2.5 year old German Shepard/Pit Mix. She was a rescued at 8 months from an extremely abusive and neglectful home. She was crated for 20+ hours a day and never properly socialized to people or other dogs. Care Animal Hospital has taken their time with her and work off her terms and at her pace. It was so nice to see a facility that takes their time with her and doesn't go to muzzle her within 3 minutes like 4 other vet offices did. We love it at Care and cannot wait to bring our new 5 month old German Shepard Mix in for his yearly exam. Thank you Care for being to patient and wonderful!

First of all this place is 0.7 miles away from our home. Second of all the great things is that they call you back after surgeries or vaccinations to ask how is my pets doing well. Staff is super friendly and doctors seems professional. Mocha and Mars always have a great service here

I live in the city, went to Dr. Haase for an "ACL" surgery last minute and right before I was about to leave for a 3 weeks vacations. The cost of the surgery was a flat fee that included consult, blood test, X-rays, which none of that were included with any surgeons in the city. Dr. Haase's medical assistant LINDA was a God's sent! She gave me her cell phone numbe, so I could text her directly to give me updates on my dog's well-being without going thru the wait time with front desk. She sent me pics and kept me updated the entire time. Ever since then, I've texted her with serval concerns, or questions, she relays the infos to Dr. Haase right away, and they either send a prescription to my pharmacy in the city, or mail it to me overnight, so I don't have to drive there. DR. Haase and Linda are so caring, they didn't even charge me extra fees for requesting prescriptions for my dog. My vet in the city, charges me for every single bitty thing including for writing a prescription! LINDA!!! LINDA! Dr. Haase, what an amazing team! Linda is just sooo awesome! I can't say enough about her! She responds to me right away even during her time off and week ends! I'm so grateful for her and Dr. Haase. Wish they'd open in the city, but until they do, I'll keep driving to Arlington heights.

Called Friday for my kitten, they got us in Sat morn @10. As soon as we walked in we got our room, the assistant and the Dr. were super good with my Beni. The Dr. was a newer one to the clinic, he was so great and explained everything. From check-in to check-out everyone was very pleasant. Only thing I would want next time is to know the cost a bit sooner, I asked a couple times and got it at the very end BUT it was very reasonably priced and they all took such good care of my baby.
