How to Save Money at Quailwood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Really happy with how well my sweet Venus was treated by staff here! We dropped her off yesterday morning to be spayed and also to be given medicine for a mild upper respiratory infection she had picked up from the shelter we adopted her from. I was really nervous because even though we have only had her for a few weeks, she is my baby and I want the best for her. It really helped seeing how kind the staff were and how sweet they were with her. We were then called when she was put under sedation and when the surgery was done to keep us updated, and when my fiancé went to pick her up they made sure he was well informed on how to take care of her while she recovers. She is now home and acts as if nothing ever happened. We are having to make her rest😅. This will definitely be where we take her for any checkups or anything she may need. I trust them completely with my baby and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good vet.

I'd give zero stars if I could. I've been using them the past 8 years and Quailwood used to be a nice place to take your animal but has gone way down hill. The ladies working the front are rude and communicate none of what you tell them to the techs working in the back. I called to get a full on check up along with vaccines for my dog, where I told them he had horrible anxiety at the vet and my father was going to bring him in because my presence seems to always make it worse. I also told them that he HATES getting his nails cut and that it wasn't going to be pleasant if they couldn't give him something to keep him calm. Monday rolls around 08/07/23, and a tech named Savannah calls me and is incredibly condescending to me the entire time explaining to me everything I had already told the woman I scheduled the appointment with. They also only gave him his vaccines and said that was all I requested for the appointment which is a bald faced lie. She proceeds to tell me one thing on the phone and my father a completely different thing while he was at the office. If the girl is scared of a dog that tried to bite when trying to clip his nails when I specifically told them that would happen she needs to find another job. Also, he apparently has a lump on this neck that was noticed and she refused to look at it or get anyone else to check it out. I'm so disgusted with this place.

Well if I could give this place a negative stars I would! All they care about is $ they don’t care about the animals or their owners. They only push their own agenda. I trusted them with my baby and looked to them to help me and they took her motherhood away like it was nothing because “ the shelter begs us to do this so we don’t have to find these puppies home “. Like I would have needed a shelter for my AKC registered momma and her puppies ! My baby had her nails painted for goodness sakes!!!!! I was never given the opportunity or was ever told that I could try and bottle feed the puppies. Then I was forced to sign a contract that they now won’t honor now. They also will not sell me her flea pill or her heart worm medication until I pay for her surgery in full. Regardless of the contract I signed. The dr was rude, insensitive and heartless. So if you are looking for a vet that could care less about you babies or you, the owner, then look no further !

I used to think very highly of this veterinary office but for the last 2 years it has gotten worse and worse. There’s no vets there hardly, they’ve all left and went to other practices and there’s so many staff members you tend to get lost in the mix. All the girls upfront are absolutely awesome and caring but beyond the reception area, the concern for you and your pet ends. As a matter of fact if you call and get beyond the reception area the concern ends. I have used this veterinarian for more than 12 years and spent a lot of money at this establishment. I called to get them to see one of my outside dogs who had never been seen by them and they basically told me before even seeing her that it would be $500 and the wouldn’t take payments like they always have and basically don’t care if we’re not regulars. I understand needing to be paid and I’ve never let a bill linger too long without paying it. I spoke with a tech that sounded 15 years old who was relaying messages to a Doctor which I thought was very unprofessional and lacked any sort of care whatsoever. So if you’re not a regular and don’t have a wad of cash in your wallet don’t bother calling this vet.
