How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Two of my cats have been gradually getting sicker and last night we brought them to VEG. I called before bringing them in and they were so sweet. I spoke to Ashley and she made a note that my cats possibly had pneumonia. Upon arrival we were shown to a room where we could stay with our fur babies. Gabby was so wonderful. She talked us through each step and when Ashley came in to assess our babies she shown great empathy. She walked me through the entire process and when I couldn’t stop crying over the situation she showed amazing support and offered more options. After an ultrasound was done, it was determined for the time being my cats didn’t have pneumonia but were still fighting an upper respiratory infection. Ashley prioritized my sickest cat first and made sure she was stable to come home. Both fur babies came home with antibiotics and an at home treatment plan. Ashely explained our next steps and gave us a list of vets in the area. Gabby and the rest of the techs were thoughtful and compassionate. They listened and explain each step in the treatment as they were treating our cats. The entire staff at VEG was so kind and wonderful

Thinking about my experience here fills my heart with so much joy. I have a very special cat, and it made me literally cry when the techs and doctors fell in love with him. They treated my little Pita like their own pet. This was my first time experiencing an emergency situation with my pet, and there is literally not another place I want to go to. VEG blew me away with their care. Thank you for saving my baby’s life!!!

Two weeks ago out of nowhere our 10 yr old American Bulldog collapsed. It was a Saturday evening, we called the closest Emergency Vet near us. I can't tell you how grateful I am that this was the number that came up. Driven past it many of times, but never having went in. I can’t say enough about the compassion and care the team at Veg ER showed when our sweet Biggie was fighting for his life. From the moment we walked in, they treated him like their own. The staff was calm, kind, and incredibly professional, explaining every step, comforting us when we were falling apart, and doing everything possible to help him. They attempted every life saving measure, but unfortunately Biggie passed away. They gave us as much time as we needed to gather family and come say goodbye. Even in the hardest moment, they gave Biggie dignity, love, and peace. I’ll never forget their tenderness and the way they made sure we were never alone through it all. These are true angels in scrubs people who genuinely care and go above and beyond for both the animals and the humans who love them. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there when we needed you most 💙

When my pup swallowed a sock WHOLE, I called my primary vet and they were closed for lunch, so they recommended VEG. VEG texted me intake paperwork so I came in and was immediately greeted, intake nurse yelled out the situation like an ER STAT and ushered me to a bench in the back. The doctor saw my pup immediately, made a treatment plan, a vet tech gave me the estimate and they immediately treated my sweet Louie. The nurse and vet tech that administered the medicines to make him vomit the sock up were fabulous. They were so cool and sweet and made what could have been a really awful time not so bad at all. Happy to report, my dog gave us back the sock, they gave him more medicine to A+++

Our sweet Finn was in critical condition when we brought him to VEG on Saturday, 9/27. Every single person we encountered was kind, caring and supportive. Finn’s pain was addressed immediately. Everything was done right in front of us, I.V., labs, ultrasound. Dr. Davis was very compassionate and honest with her assessment, which, while very hard to hear, was greatly appreciated . We had to let Finn go that day. We were given privacy and the time we needed to say goodbye to our sweet boy. We miss him so very much. Thanks so much to Dr. Davis and the staff at VEG. We appreciate everything you did for us and for Finn.
