How to Save Money at Wintermere Pointe Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We take our George and Jake to this vet. And they are always so patient and very gentle with our boy's. It's truly like taking your children to a pediatric office. They comfort your animals has they get their shots done. They are quick with responses if you have a concern with your pets. And quick appointment settings. Awesome Employees as well.

Dr. Santiago and his staff took such great care of our Riley through a very challenging year of chronic pancreatitis and other old dog issues. We moved from Orlando up to NC - but one of the things we miss the most is Wintermere Pointe! We are so grateful for their care and efforts to help us through everything!

Our sweet Schnoodle Charlie got very ill and we brought him in without an appointment desperately seeking help. Dr. Santiago and his staff immediately took amazing care of him. Charlie needed hospitalization and they updated us on his status. Dr. Santiago personally called and explained Charlie’s condition, diagnosis and treatment. We are forever grateful for their professionalism, efficiency and friendly service. Thank you so much!

Front desk Lady Named Rosa “Apparently office manager” has such a rude way to communicate with Patients. At first she said that Dr. Santiago does not spay dogs anymore while making the appointment last week. Dr saw my dog and was surprised that front desk said that along with his assistant Samantha. I have been waiting for a prescription to be sign By Dr. Santiago for 2 days and the pharmacy stated that they haven’t heard from the Veterinarian to confirm it. I spoke yesterday at 4:50pm with The front desk lady Named Rosa and said that Dr. Will sign it first thing in the morning today August 24h. I called and after waiting for about 10 min she got upset and started calling me Ma’am when I am a gentleman. She has not respect with clients and it’s not the first time she is like that. Dr. Santiago should record and listen the conversations and check the way of how the manager front desk lady treats clients. Its not fear that after spending over $110 for a heartworn test along with a Dr visit I have to be treated like that. Also Dr told me before I walk out the room that I will get an estimate for a tooth cleaning with sedation and she hasn’t sent it yet!!! On top of all I am asking for a copy of the negative results of the test performed in the office and she is saying that she will not do that!!! Please if you make appointments check the way of who the front desk lady treats patients over the phone so she can learn how to provide customer service and no devalued a practice name. Guck luck getting your pets prescriptions on time!!

We are so happy to have found our new vet! Our older Golden Retriever, Lucy and our small Bichon puppy, Bonnie are very comfortable there. When Dr Santiago spayed Bonnie, he even rubbed and kissed her little healed tummy on the follow up visit. Everyone there is kind and their love of animals shines through. The team provides expert healthcare for Bonnie and Lucy, but most importantly to us, with kindness and love. So happy we switched from our other vet! Thank you Dr. Santiago and team! Below is little Bonnie only hours after surgery, but she was so much better the next morning :).
