How to Save Money at Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists Miami

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I do not recommend this place for an emergency. I took my beloved Yorkie there with a severe blood loss, she needed urgent medical attention, and instead of examine her and give her the proper care, they spend so long going through the price estimates, and asked me to pay in advance. They took her in and I was not able to see her. They didn't even call me for an update later that night, I had to be the one calling them. When I went to pick her up in the morning, the doctor was not even there, my dog was not in a good state, she was still bleeding, they claim they did a blood transfusion but her blood results claimed other wise. I waisted more than 2300$ that night. Will never bring her there again.

If your dog is in dire need of care, do NOT send them here. I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my beautiful 10 month old Bully because of their neglect and carelessness. My dog had a respiratory virus where she was super sick, had troubles breathing, and hadn’t drank water or eaten. As soon as I brought her in, the veterinarian looked at me in disgust and said “first of all, why is your dog so overweight?” Which was not true as she was a very strong and healthy bully- all muscle, no fat. My dog and I were waiting in the room for their care for over an hour until I opened up a credit card because they forced me to pay $3200 before care even took place. Even though it was an EMERGENCY. I was waiting and waiting, wondering why my dog was not being seen, only until my credit card was approved did they come see her. After leaving my dog in their care, they called me and hour and a half (around 7:30pm) after taking her in saying they finally gave her fluids. I called again around 10:30pm to hear updates, to learn her breathing had gotten worse. Then at 2:30am they called, bluntly asking, “So I’m just calling to ask, if you had to make a decision on Lila… what would that be.” I was completely confused and asked what they meant by “a decision”, and what decision I had to make for my dog, given they had no explanation for what they called for. After asking multiple times what that meant, they said “well, Lila went into cardiac arrest and passed away.” So there was no decision to make. I was left with a bill of $2800 for them to neglect my dog, and only give her an IV for treatment, which was given 3 hours after we entered the hospital. I’ve had to deal with the heartbreak of losing my daughter due to neglect and carelessness, and left with a new credit card of $2800 that I’ve had to struggle to pay for. I hope this never happens to anyone and their loved ones, and seeing their other reviews, they should be shut down. ALSO when I came to pick up her ashes, the people at the front desk (as I was crying) were cracking jokes behind the desk and couldn’t even act professional or sympathetic for 2 minutes while i painstakingly picked up my daughters remains. From the bottom of my heart, I hope these people find a different career where they never have to care for any other living beings. They are absolutely cruel. Found an older stray chihuahua that seemed to need some medical attention. I found Thrive while searching for an emergency vet near me. I called on the phone and they were really nice and confirmed that they could check the dog for a microchip. Once I arrived they confirmed that the dog did not have a chip and I left. Less then 5 minutes after we drove off the dog had a wound that started bleeding. We immediately returned and they were able to give the dog an evaluation and treatment plan to get her through the night. They addressed any critical wounds she had for a reasonable price. They were kind, professional and efficient.
