How to Save Money at Emergency Pet Clinic of Longmont

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From front of office staff to Dr. Manning this place is amazing. The care, knowledge, friendliness, and efficiency was really impressive. Our 20 year-old cat accidentally fell off a balcony and the amount of care and information they provided us made us feel extremely confident in a very scary situation. I would highly recommend this emergency clinic! I couldn’t be more grateful to have found this place.

We had to take our cat here late at night (over a holiday weekend) when she kept vomiting. Turns out she had eaten some yarn and needed emergency surgery. The team here was amazing, and even worked with us to provide the best care for our cat within our fixed budget. The team was kind, compassionate, and communicated with us each step of the way. She ended up being in their care for 2.5 days before they felt it was safe to bring her home. If any of our animals have an emergency, I won't hesitate to take them here if I'm unable to reach out regular vet!!

Had to rush my Bernese mountain dog Bear here at 3am. They got me in super quick and determined that my 9 year old boy was already actively dying. They did not try to sell me anything unnecessary and just made him comfy to pass on his own. They gave me plenty of time to be alone with him after he was gone and I felt so loved and heard about my sadness for losing my boy so suddenly. I did not feel rushed or anything to leave his side. I then received his ashes in a beautiful urn and his paw print with his name. Nothing but impressed with this whole crappy situation ❤️ we even received a handwritten card with their condolences. Nothing but respect for these wonderful people in our sudden time of loss.

I’m giving the Emergency Pet Clinic of Longmont two stars because, while the doctors and nursing staff provided excellent medical care for our dog, Piper, the front-desk experience was extremely disappointing and distressing. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve worked with several veterinary clinics as Piper required emergency surgery for a foreign object in her lower intestine. Almost every office we spoke with was compassionate and supportive — unfortunately, that was not our experience here. When we called with a post-surgery concern, we were shocked when a staff member responded by saying, “euthanasia is always an option,” and proceeded to list worst-case scenarios such as sepsis, infection, and rupture. This felt completely uncalled for, especially since Piper was simply experiencing a bit of GI sluggishness — a relatively minor issue under the circumstances. The suggestion of euthanasia, without even seeing her, was both inappropriate and deeply upsetting. Despite our hesitation after that interaction, we brought Piper in due to limited emergency options in the area. She stayed for 24 hours, and when I called the next day to arrange pick-up, the front-desk staff member abruptly hung up on me before I could finish my sentence. Additionally, during our visit, it was clear that the front-desk environment was tense and poorly managed. The individual who appeared to be the front-desk manager was visibly harsh and dismissive toward their own staff, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. While we are grateful for the care the medical team provided to Piper, the lack of professionalism and empathy from the front-desk and management significantly affected our overall experience. For that reason, I cannot confidently recommend this clinic to others.

Thank you all for helping my four legged friend. We are forever grateful to Dr. Z and his assistants for helping my dog, Beans, feel better. The front desk worker, Grace, was so compassionate and kind too.
