How to Save Money at VRCC Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital (Cardiology)
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

*Mentioning two vets since I cannot write a second post. Dr. Creevey is truly an outstanding cardiologist and one of the most compassionate veterinarians I’ve ever met. From the very beginning, he has treated my dog as if she were his own, and that level of care means the world to me. He has rearranged his personal schedule to be present while she was under anesthesia numerous times — something that brought me immense comfort and eased so much of my anxiety. He gave me his personal cell number, sent thoughtful text updates and photos after her procedure, and encouraged me to reach out anytime with questions. He always responds with kindness, patience, and genuine concern, and checks in with other specialists when questions are outside of his wheelhouse. As someone who doesn’t have children, my dog is my world. Knowing that she’s being cared for by a doctor who is SO dedicated and compassionate gives me incredible peace of mind during this time of uncertainty with her health. Dr. Creevey truly sets the gold standard for veterinary care, and I’m beyond grateful for everything he’s done for us. I cannot thank him enough. ❤️ — My dog Dali was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive, and treatment-resistant tonsil-like cancer. As anyone can imagine, entering the world of oncology is emotionally overwhelming — cancer truly sucks. But throughout this incredibly difficult journey, Dr. Vernon has made us feel supported, informed, and genuinely cared for. The news was devastating; Dali is my whole world and the thought of losing her while she’s otherwise healthy and youthful was too much to handle. Dr. Vernon took the time to walk me through what the diagnosis meant and what options were available. I deeply appreciated his calm, steady presence and his attention to detail when explaining everything, whether in person or over email — especially during moments when I was emotionally falling apart. Knowing that Dali is in the hands of such a dedicated and compassionate doctor brings me immense peace of mind. I cannot thank Dr. Vernon enough for all he has done and continues to do for both of us. He has made an unbearable situation feel manageable, and I am endlessly grateful. ❤️

I just can’t say enough good things about this clinic. I’ve been bringing my old man here for the past couple of years for his heart, and every visit leaves me amazed at the level of care he receives. We see Dr. Julie Martin, who has gone above and beyond—making time for the occasional urgent phone call between visits, promptly answering my questions about his medications, and always showing genuine concern for his well-being. The office staff is equally wonderful, keeping communication with the doctor seamless and getting his prescriptions filled quickly. My little man’s health has been declining over the past couple of years, but it truly feels like they’re helping me carry the weight of it, making sure he receives the best possible treatment. I’m sure my little guy and I are a high-maintenance pair, but they’ve never made us feel that way. I recommend them to everyone—even my hairstylist! They are truly exceptional.

I so appreciated the time, diligence, and care for our dog from Dr Creevy and his vet tech in Cardiology. He was patient, thorough, and explained our dog’s valve situation with clarity. We were able to find the answers we needed for the heart murmur our dog’s valve situation was discovered to have by his regular vet. We scheduled the recommended ECG and he also received an ultrasound due to his specific situation. Everyone was cheerful, compassionate, but realistic about what we can expect and we can best treat it. This is a great hospital with awesome staff and I would highly recommend their services!

Dr. Lee and her staff provided amazing care to our senior dog. After spending two days at our family vet trying to diagnose her labored breathing, Dr. Lee knew the answers and the right treatment plan for her. She was immediately feeling better that evening! Dr. Lee was so supportive, compassionate and knowledgeable. Highly recommend VRCC for your pet's needs.

Though we received the worst news possible regarding our amazing Andre, everyone was incredibly warm, kind, and caring. It is clear they care about his comfort and ours…never felt pressured to do anything or feel anything. These are truly wonderful people, and I am so grateful that we brought our family doggy here. Thank you for treating all of us so lovingly.
