How to Save Money at We Talk Pets! Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Was recommended to us by a family friend of ours when we were first going thru the stages of getting one of our dogs help after her cancer diagnosis. For our other dog, they had suggested a mixture of both medication and physical therapy, and a more holistic approach to weight loss for our dog. I like that they will do what they can holistically instead of pumping the dogs full of meds. They're the most affordable vet office I have ever seen in my life! Super supportive and my dogs don't put up a fight when we need to take them, they like the staff. The previous vet office we used to take them to (I won't name) wanted to charge around $1200~ for a teeth cleaning that included the sedation. We Talk Pets offered their services for just under $300 for the same procedure. Definitely a must-go, especially if you're like me and you're still in college doing part time work, but need to take your buddy for a visit.

Horrible place to take your fur babies,Dr. raj is all about making a buck and not about your pets health, had a prescription sent to him by Walmart pet rx that needed to be filled for same recurring issue she had a month or so before,Walmart sent him prescription twice and he never addressed it,I called multiple times before I was finally told he denied it leaving my girl with a bad diarrhea and no meds, basically because Dr. raj wasn’t going to get his $$$ for a 2 minute visit so he wasn’t interested to help out,dur yourself and your pets a favor and find a vet that actually cares and thank me later!!!

Dr Raj is attentive, and has empathy. He has taken the time to speak to me regarding the health of my pets, and I am very grateful for it. I was referred by my girlfriend and her family pets, after I was unsatisfied with the previous treatment progression and results from a past vet. I am happy coming here.

Initially came to Dr. Raj 3 years ago for my Dog to get his annual physical and he was my pet's vet. My dog had an accident and had a spinal injury, but Dr. Raj was not open on Sundays when this happened late 2020 so we were panicking and took him to another vet and since then we didn't come back to see Dr. Raj because the other vet had my pet's health records. NOTE: WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH DR. RAJ TO BEGIN WITH. I had to come back to Dr. Raj for my dog's health screen recently because I was not happy with the way the other vet was communicating with me and Dr. Raj, just as he was 3 years ago, still the same doctor and communicated right away even after 3 years of me not coming back with my pet. Dr. Raj knew the situation and he knew I was most likely not coming back to see him again because I live on the east coast, and he was still attentive and followed through with his words and services. He took the time to call me back and explained the situation with my pet and his staff was attentive. I felt bad because I was probably being super annoying by calling them multiple times through the day to get lab results and I am sure there are lots of us out there that love our animals would do the same thing and they get used to it, but it didn't stop them from following through. Lab results take time to get back to the doctor and as he promised me, Dr. Raj did call back and helped me with my pet's situation. My pet was safe to travel and I was able to take him back to the east coast with me, so I can better take care of him since he is old. I also want to mention, I realized when I had to come back to his office to pick up more medicine, and his patient line was out the door! The fact he had so many patients waiting , and he picked up the phone to speak to me for 5 mins- that meant the world to me, so thank you Dr. Raj and team! Thank you Dr. Raj for your communication and attention to detail. You were honest with me about the quality of health for my pet, and I can't express how much gratitude I have for your services. I know you were super busy that day as I imagine all your days are busy, and the fact you took time out of your day to give me 5 mins of your time to go over your lab findings made all the difference to me, so I thank you!!! Your time is much appreciated and thank you to your staff for being attentive!

If I could give Dr. Thind 10 stars, I totally would :) He was recommended to us when my puppy Chloë got sick. Another emergency vet quoted us 5-7k for "emergency surgery" to save her life. Because that is more than we make in 3 months, we were devastated thinking that we might lose her. Thanks to another great vet in the Coachella valley, we found Dr. Thind and I rushed Chloë to his office the next day (Saturday). His advice was thorough and sound, he determined that before we "cut" he wanted to do an ultrasound and pump fluids to see if we could determine what was going on. His ultrasound contact came in on his day off to help and 24 hours later, Chloë was all healed, she didn't need surgery at ALL, and Doc had solved the problem and healed her. We live in Palm Springs, so it was a hike to get to Upland, but Dr. Thind's honesty, integrity, and care of Chloë made the drive TOTALLY worth it. Furthermore, his vet techs and front desk staff are as kind and professional as he is. They follow up when they say they are going to and they really CARE about the best care for your pet and for the owners. He is also incredibly affordable. I'm SOOOO grateful for the care that Chloë received from the WTP team. We love them all!
