How to Save Money at Shadow Hills Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was referred to this vet from my son. Dr v is a miracle worker. I have two 13 year old cats. I always get in there is never a wait he listens to all i say and he treats my cats like they are also his own. He has a clinic in simi valley too. I wish i found him 13 years ago. He never suggests expensive teats like other vets unless they are needed. Hands down this is the beat clinic ever. The staff are so kind all of them. The place is clean and i could go on and on this place is heavenly in every way

I've been coming to Shadow Hills Pet Clinic for my pet's needs since 2008. I tried other vets closer to home and I just ended up coming back to this clinic. The service is THAT good. My last visit was for my dog, who was bitten at the dog park and needed staples. They didn't have time that day, but as my dog had gaping wounds and was actively bleeding, they kindly squeezed us in. They could have referred me elsewhere and I would have been OK with that. Kai healed up well and the Shadow Hills team was patient with him, even though he was in pain and made stinky faces because he didn't want to be touched where it hurts. The clientele at Shadow Hills pet Clinic has grown quite a lot in the last 15 years. It used to be practically empty and now it can be very hard to get an appointment within a week of your call. The parking lot is tiny and lately I've had to park on the street instead. I'm not surprised though, because their prices are fair and the skill of Dr. Mohan and his team is top notch. It SHOULD be a popular vet clinic. Sometimes, no one answers the phone when Google says they are open--- which is probably their 'surgery day', but I wish it were made more clear on their answering machine and on their website. Shadow Hills has gone through quite a few receptionists in the last few years and a few them in the past have been rude. There's new people now though who are not rude. But if you have a hard time getting them on the phone or if the receptionist is rude, don't let that deter you. Once your pet is in and you are seeing the doctor, it's all worth it. Unless it's an emergency, then girl what are you doing take them to an emergency vet.

I have been going here for the past 20 years. First I would go with Dr Mohan and now I go with Dr Varun. Both doctors are excellent at caring for all the dogs I’ve had and currently have. They answer all of your questions, they are compassionate and the pricing is reasonable. Finally, the receptionists are always so nice and welcoming! Overall I would recommend anyone to come here they really care about your loved furbabies :)

I have been going there for 10 years now. Doctors are amazing. It always surprises me that they remember who I am and the dog I used to have. You want that kind of recognition when you’re taking your your loved ones in.

This is the best vet clinic, staff and Dr Mohan. He is compassionate and honest. His services are affordable. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. I moved further away and still chose to take my cats to there.
