How to Save Money at Seacoast Animal Health Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had 2 experiences recently to visit Seacoast. One last Thurs when I had to say good-bye to my 14 yr old sweetheart Chloe. She’d been a patient of Dr Adams for 7+ yrs. Everyone was so caring, loving & supportive🐾💞 I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr Adams and all of the sweethearts in the office❤️ I took my Springer Gutherie in for his recurrent skin issues from allergies. Gutherie was so happy to see everyone😀 they’re so loving to him!! They treat my pets as if they’re their own. Gutherie never shakes or gets upset going there!! That’s a huge plus👍 I could go on & on about how wonderful they are. I hope you & your pets are lucky enough to develop a caring relationship with all of them🥰

I cannot thank the Seacoast staff enough for saving my sweet Bailey! On Friday night she had gotten into one of my other pup’s medication and we were in a panic. Luckily Dr. Adams, Rebecca, and Ariana were ready to save the day. They were calm and quick to take action. I had called ahead of time to let them know we were on the way and by the time we had arrived they were waiting with all their supplies to induce vomiting. While Dr. Adams was on the phone with poison control, Rebecca and Ariana were standing by Bailey with a bucket and trash can ready to catch whatever came up. I HIGHLY recommend Seacoast to anyone who is in the area. We absolutely love them and the care they provide! They love all their clients as if they were their own and treat them with the upmost care!

My cat recently had a huge decline in his health after a diagnosis of mouth cancer. He couldn’t eat anymore and every time he drank he would cough. Me and my wife decided quickly that the best option for him to be euthanasia since his quality of life dropped significantly. We were searching around our local area and every other place charged around $900-$1200 for euthanasia and cremation and some wouldn’t even give you the ashes back. I reached out to a few places on yelp and seacoast animal health Center gave me a great price with options of Cremation by fire or water. The staff was very kind and thoughtful when I called and had the room ready for me as soon as I arrived for us to put down our sweet little guy. The vet tech Ariana and Dr. Adams were so thoughtful and kind. They made the experience so pleasant and quick for our cat. I can’t thank them enough for allowing us to take the time to sit with our cat and say goodbye. Even though this was a difficult time for me and my wife, Dr. Adams Assured us, we were making the right decision and offered us plenty of resources after the euthanasia. We’re so grateful to the entire staff at Seacoast and I’m glad my cat is at peace. UPDATE: It’s been about six days since my Cat Damon was put down. I got a call today from seacoast telling me his ashes were ready for pick up. When I got to seacoast to pick up his ashes, the staff already knew and brought him out to me. I was really shocked to see that they also included a paw print and a patch of my cats fur , along with his cremated ashes. It was truly incredible the amount of dedication and thought seacoast put Into my cat after his passing it is truly heartwarming. When I got home later to check my mailbox, I saw a letter from seacoast. I opened it up and it was a personal letter from the staff and Dr. Adams telling me how sorry they were for my loss and that my cat was truly lucky to have me. The compassion they had for my cat is truly extraordinary and I am so grateful for there support.

The whole team at Seacoast was super friendly and welcoming when I brought my puppy in for her first checkup. They made the entire process easy, answered all my questions, and made my puppy feel so comfortable that she ended up sleeping through the whole exam. Could not recommend SAHC any more - they are the most professional and caring team I've come across with any of my 4 dogs and I won't be taking my pup anywhere else.

Seacoast Animal Health Center in San Marcos should be your number one choice for your treasured pet's care. Not only does it offer a state-of-the-art aesthetically pleasing, clean and roomy facility, but the attention to detail is apparent in all respects. Dr. Tanya Adams started caring for my Westie when he was roughly 7, and after managing multiple complex health issues, we recently lost him at 15 years, 7 months. A life well-lived due to her expertise, availability, tenacity, follow-up and compassion. And the Vet technicians as well as the entire staff, including management, are exceptional and just as caring and compassionate. All of this combined can make a sometimes stressful and emotional visit go as smoothly as possible, and no matter the circumstances, you will leave knowing everyone did their absolute best! If I could offer any advice, it is most important to work as a team. The Dr. depends on the pet parent to be observant, report anything different or unusual, and follow through with all medications and protocols. What I truly appreciate was her openness to listen, bounce ideas around and in fact be willing to think outside the box, in particular when dealing with multiple complex conditions going on all at the same time. May you enjoy many happy and healthy years with your precious pet under the care of Dr. Adams!
