How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of South Bay - Rolling Hills

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love my two dogs dearly and about over a year ago we moved to this area did not know anyone start bringing my dogs here. The young one in the picture was doing really well. The old one progressively got worse over the year. I ended up trying out another hospital due to the administrative problems with this hospital and getting your paperwork on time. Thank God I went to the other hospital because as soon as they saw my older dogs, they said that he needs surgery right away and they took care of him right away it turns out, that the small signs of problems that I saw with the administrative work and the non-attention to detail was also affecting their medical services in my case. The doctors at the other hospital down the road were very upset that these guys were just referring me to eye doctors and not really taking care of the problem if you guys are not satisfied with the performance of this hospital. Please look around. There are a lot better options with better medical treatment and better administrative processes and serious managers that want to treat the clients, right

My family has taken our pets here for the last fifteen years. I have always left with a clear feeling that they provide great care and always with a very positive demeanor. I love this place

Animal Hospital of South Bay - Rolling Hills has been absolutely phenomenal the moment I walked in. I got my first puppy several months ago. I took her to them for her initial visit, signed up for the puppy package, and they took care of everything. When I was ready to spay my puppy, they did the blood work and she came back with abnormal liver values. When they continued to be abnormal, Dr. Walker referred us to a specialist who did further testing to determine if she was ok for surgery/ if she had any serious problems. When the long awaited day of my dogs spay came, I was extremely nervous. She is my baby, and I had been on edge ever since hearing she had abnormal values. Dr Walker texted me before she went in, and both times I called to check in on her the receptionists took the time to go back and check for me. I even got a picture of her in recovery! I feel like this was above and beyond and made everything less stressful for me. Every-time I've called to talk with Dr. Walker about my many questions she has been extremely patient. Her dedication to her job is very impressive and appreciated!! The vet techs I have met have all been incredibly sweet and kind towards both me and my pup. As for billing. Maybe the practice is more pricier than normal, but in my experience the only vets I've been to that were worth their salt were a little more on the pricier side. I would pay anything to have my dog in competent hands. Every single bill I've received from this animal hospital has been itemized, and I've never noticed any head turning charges. My Sadie is now recovering from her spay/liver biopsy and even though it's only day 2 she is already eating, drinking, and (while sore) being her normal self. Thank you Animal Hospital South Bay Rolling Hills!!!

We just moved to this neighborhood and we are super glad we found this clinic. The vet took care of my dog in an absolute nice way. She answered all my concerns and questions. The technician was super nice and friendly and walked me through my dog’s treatment procedure. The front desk staff are nice as well and treated my dog very well! There are many parking spaces outside. Highly recommended! I will take my cat here as well!

This is hands down the best vet clinic in South Bay. The team and Dr’s here have always gone out of their way to help out all my babies (cats and dogs) when we need it the most. I can’t say enough about their friendliness, professionalism, and all-around concern during times of stress when the babies get sick or injured. Both the staff and medical care team are absolutely amazing and helpful. Thanks so much!! We’ll forever be your faithful clients.
