How to Save Money at Pacific CARE Pet Emergency & Specialty

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I really can't express how much I liked this place. I was pretty desperate trying to get my Gizmo in to a vet asap due to constipation, pain and bloating. Nobody would see him. I was referred here and luckily they got us in. They are a SUPER clean and nice office. They offer coffee and such while you wait. They are very attentive and they were able to not only help Gizmo but they helped me by asking my budget and going from there. I spent way less than I thought. Not gonna lie, having to make a 1K dollar deposit was worrisome for me. The most I had to spend was that. Thankfully we were able to get it down to just a little over half that price. With their help and me nursing my fur baby we were able to unclog him and he is no longer in pain and is back to strolling around the house like he owns the place...😂... Thank you sooooo much to ALL the amazing staff and Veterinarians at Pacific Care Pet Emergency hospital. You all rock ♥ I hope I don't need this place any time soon but when and if I do, I'll definitely be back here.

I 100% would recommend Pacific Care Pet Emergency! Took my fur baby to another pet hospital and they had me waiting outside, with an already tricky check in process and limited interaction I decided to leave. Pacific care was the next closets hospital. As soon as I walked through the door I felt instantly at ease. The front staff is very welcoming and truly concerned about getting your pet looked at ASAP! My Shipoo was in for an upset stomach and possible obstruction. The vet and all the vet techs were amazing! No process is complete until you agree. My little Noche had to stay overnight and they let me see him before setting him up for his treatment. My fur baby was all cleared and ready to go home the next day. Time tables were long but they kept us updated and were welcoming to any update inquiries we had. We waited about 3 hours for an initial consultation but he was taken in immediately for monitoring. I am recommending this hospital to any and all my family and friends!

Our Chihuahua Chloe was having trouble w her kidneys. Our vet started her on iv fluids and was released. Our normal vet was not open during the weekend so we could not follow up w questions and concerns. We brought Chloe in to be seen as she had a large bump forming on her abdomen and we were concerned. The staff at Pacific Care were wonderful. They had triage come and take her immediately in the exam room. Chloe was brought back out within 5 min. Great news... The bump was from all the subcutaneous fluids she had received for 2 days from our vet. We asked about the charge for services. The staff said it was zero. Amazing. Never have we not paid for medical services...whether a doctor's office or a vets office. We are blessed to know Chloe will have ER services available if need be in the future. And know the staff and vets at Pacific will take such great care w her....and us. Thank you so much for making us feel at ease and showing true compassion for Chloe as well as us

We have used Pacific Care's ER services numerous times. When they first opened they provided excellent care and saved our beloved cats life. Our cat had a 4 day stay at the ER and they were very communicative and provided emergency life saving care. They were upfront and transparent with pricing. Any responsible, logical, and experienced pet owner knows that emergency services for a cat or dog can get pricey - that is just facts when being a responsible owner. Our cat had an expensive stay, but he survived and received excellent care from their professionals. I cannot recommend enough.

I trusted my Pacific Care with my dog and was not disappointed. It was an emergency and I didn't have time to research where to take my dog. I needed somewhere close. Dr. Laura Lei and Dr. Tricia Nguyen, in turn, took extremely good care of my dog. I received a phone call every morning and evening each day my dog was with Pacific Care. They patiently took the time to explain everything and to answer each of my questions.
