While one would never wish this, I have had to take both my dogs to VEG at some point. Both times they were above and beyond what I expected. My most recent visit, I had to take my most fractious dog Kaleb there - as against all the odds - he bloated. While there was no torsion, thankfully, it was touch and go for a minute as his stomach was extremely distended. Kaleb is the type of dog that if you LOOK at him too closely, he’ll react negatively. Negatively meaning anywhere from growling to snapping to actual lunging. He’s kind of a jerk. Being able to be there during his care for the entire process….. words cannot express how much I appreciated everything the care team did at VEG. Allowing me to be there, To handle some of the equipment for him, keeping me apprised every step of the way of what was going on…. Being able to stay and sleep in the room with him (and protect him from the scary IV pole) rather than having him be kenneled (a touchy issue with him). All of that made his treatment go both more smoothly and with greater peace of mind. Every previous time Kaleb has been sedated for something like an x-ray, his recovery over the next few days to a week has been notably negative. However, over the past couple days since Kaleb and I have come home, none of that has been seen this time. If anything, he’s even sweeter than he was before we went to VEG. And that’s saying something. So from start to finish to post visit… Everything added up to be a “higher than expectation” visit. I cannot thank the entire team enough for being as awesome as they are. For saving my best brat’s life. For understanding the dogs that need the most, if sometimes something a little different, from people to make it through positively. Just… thank you. From the bottom of my heart
