How to Save Money at Friends Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Quick sign in and taking the cat in back. Very polite, explained things very well. They give a tatoo instead of ear snip. Great price for low income households.

Can't say enough good things about the new Friends of PACC clinic. We brought our senior dog with late stage congestive heart failure in for probable euthanasia, and they could not have been more kind and accommodating through the whole process. They let us look over the quality of life guidelines just to be sure and were realistic and caring when discussing it with us. Our little guy also loved the people and going new places (sometimes a bit too much and would end up in a syncope! Thankfully not this time though) which made the visit easier for sure, and it ended up being as ideal as something like euthanasia can possibly be, with him making friends with the clinic staff all the while. He passed the happiest we had seen him in awhile, meeting new friends and a belly full of chicken nuggets. The pricing was also incredibly fair so that we were even able to get a private cremation, something we had not been able to afford with previous pets and was very important to us. Thank you so much to all of the staff who helped us through that day, as bittersweet as it was, I'll always be endlessly thankful that he was able to go out so happily 💗

I called about a dog who needed follow up care from valley fever. The prices that I was quoted for almost as much as a regular vet appt. Later I called about a friend's dog who was attacked by javelinas and needed care. They never called back. My friend had to put down his dog himself because he didn't have money for a vet!

I am incredibly appreciative of what this clinic is doing for our community! Although the only issue I did have was that my dog was overprescribed gabapentin, animals cannot die from being overprescribed but can be incredibly sick. This clinic told me that an animal from 10-120lbs is prescribed the same amount of gabapentin due to their high volume. Then was told it was based on their weight to milligram ratio but then told me that ratio was the same from 10-120. I was told if my dog was sick for more than two days (which she was and made her healing process even more uncomfortable) that she’s just having a bad reacting to the gabapentin that she was over prescribed. Which at this point I had already had to go to an emergency vet to get a new prescription for my dog of this medication since it was the weekend and they PACC was closed. I told them that my dog who is 12 pounds went form taking 200 mgs of gabapentin that was prescribed by their clinic to 25 mgs of gabapentin that was correctly prescribed by this emergency vet was now fine and no longer puking and having diarrhea every hour. Long story short very cheap and well done spay do not trust the medication they send you home with or the amount that is given, or do your research. These healing babies cannot speak for themselves after a major surgery and why make them more uncomfortable than they already are or need to be? My pup is now happy and fully healed and has been able to eat full meals after getting her on the right meds and keep it down. I am grateful regardless to PACC for helping the community with low cost veterinary services.

We are so grateful for the care we received at Friends of PACC Community Clinic. Our visit was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Dr. O was absolutely amazing with our dog, Dolly — so patient, kind, and clearly dedicated to her work. The entire staff made us feel welcome and supported throughout the visit. We’ll definitely be coming back and will recommend this clinic to all our friends and family. If you haven’t been yet, you truly need to check them out!
