How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to put my dog down recently after over a decade with her. Banfield squeezed us in when I told them she really wasn’t doing well and Dr. Rios clearly did not mind whatsoever that she had ended up with an extra appointment that day. They made that whole thing just a tad easier and Dr. Rios was very comforting during the procedure. In addition, Dr. Boucher is also amazing, honest, and a delicately straightforward veterinarian. I was able to get my dog’s remains back in less than a week. Thank you to everyone who works there!

We went here for identity-verification in preparation to travel overseas - a process that should have taken a couple of days total. The vet's mistakes with the paperwork and poor communication directly caused a *three-week delay* to our travel plans. However, the vet was apologetic and everyone working there was very pleasant.

The staff here is absolutely incredible! From the wonderful front desk employees to the amazing vets and vet techs! I bring all four of my animals to this location specifically because they have always held themselves to such a clear and high standard. I've brought my pets in for everything from a routine vaccine to complicated illnesses and they always answer every question, treat my pets with so much care and love and they do it all without me feeling like they are rushing me out like most vets that you *might* see for 5 minutes. They genuinely take their time with my animals looking over every inch of them to make sure something is not overlooked. I've overheard the entire staff in the back talking and helping to calm my dogs just to take blood and it truly warms my heart. I cannot thank the staff here enough for all that they do for myself and my furbabies.

Dr. Lloyd is simply amazing. Most caring not only for your fur babies but also for you as a parent. All of the supporting staff are great and extremely compassionate. I highly recommend you taking your pet to Banfield on River Road!!!! They are the best.

Absolutely will never go back here again! The ladies in the back were rude and two faced. First of all, I made sure to schedule the appointment for the soonest possible time available before driving there and showing up, I didn’t just show up with no appointment. If you guys have a problem taking same day appointments then don’t bother having them available. It also took me almost 40 minutes to get over there so you had the time to prepare for my visit. Listen don’t sit there and act like you care about my animal then behind closed doors act all inconvenienced by your job. You ladies decided to go in to work that day, the least you could do is YOUR JOB and be professional! I would recommend using Vetco instead of going here, the customer service is 10 times better than here. Whatever you do just stay far away from this location!!! They really don’t care about your animals
