How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We unfortunately did not have good luck at this vet. I have a very large dog who has anxiety at the vet. We were scheduled with a vet who was suppose to work with large dogs. She came into the room and didnt acknowledge our dog at all and she was shaking. He was trying to hide under the bench in the room and instead of calling him out to try and say hi, she cornered him under the bench until he growled. I then offered to put a muzzle on him myself because she was trying to essentially lasso him with a leash because she was too scared to get near him. They then gave him so much medication he puked for 3 days. I went to a new vet today and they pet him upon entering the room and he loved them and they put a muzzle on him no problem and started with a small dose of medication. He is home sleeping now and hasn't puked once. They really seemed like they cared for our dog unlike Banfield. I think Banfield is good for small dogs but I woukd not take a larger dog here.

Very rarely do I leave a review, and usually only for people or places that really exceed expectations. I am only rating 1 star because it doesn't matter what time of day you call, throughout business hours No one will answer your call and absolutely no one EVER, will reply to your voicemail messages. The Banfield at Pet Smart is more customer service related in my experience. The one at Mission Plaza has been a disappointment. This team lacks organization and efficiency. My pet has a wellness plan and the benefits are great but not for lack of service.

My daughter went in to the vet clinic to get USDA approval on June 3rd. She was informed that she couldn’t have a vet appointment until 10days before departing. This was false. My daughter provided the vet with official USDA paperwork stating that documents could be sent as early as 30 days before departure. They refused. As her father and having done this same process a few months earlier with another vet, I explained that I had just done this and it needed to be done this way so the usda could approve it during the 10 day process and get it back with many days to spare. They refused. The paperwork didn’t come in time and we are stuck and will have to spend thousands on new tickets once the document finally arrives. We did not ask them to break the rules. We asked them to follow the rules. All of this financial strain and stress and being stranded could have easily been avoided but they “knew what they were doing”. Apparently not. Buyer beware. Go to another vet and they’ll do it the right way with no stress to you

If I could give 0 stars I would. I took my Lab here because she was having trouble walking, breathing, eating and had a dramatic mood change. She also grew large balls on her stomach and chest. They told me she may have cancer… After paying 1,400 dollars in X rays and blood tests, they told me it was a result of arthritis and a uti. They gave me meds to give my dog for two weeks, my dogs condition got so much worse to the point she was pooping herself, crying nonstop, no longer eating, and couldn’t walk or get up off the floor. We found out a month after taking her to this hospital, she did have cancer and we had to have her put down.
