How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I went in to the Vetco Vaccine clinic for annual boosters and a prescription for Heartworm preventative. I explicitly stated that I wanted a written prescription to take to Costco. They said the prescription would be emailed to me. The email I received contained a prescription with a big "TRANSFERRED" watermark in the back ground and had Quantity: 0; Refills: 0. I checked the Petco website and the prescription had already been transferred to them but was already canceled. I could not even order Heartguard from Petco. I called Vetco and they verified the clinic did not issue me a valid prescription. They said that because of the mistake they could book me a free appointment to come back in to consult with a vet to get a new prescription. They actually see it as being generous to allow me to take take out of my day to come in for a second appointment to obtain a service that I have already paid for! That is ridiculous! I am waiting for a "supervisor" to call me back. It they are not able to fix their mistake without me coming back for a second visit I will be pursuing a chargeback from my credit card company for services not received. Do NOT use the Vetco vaccine clinics!!! They are too corporate run and there is no way to get competent customer service because it is run through a call center. Instead go to a local spay/neuter clinic because they will at least have local staff t help you.

Vetco is completely amateur and should not be handling dogs, especially bigger breeds like Rottweilers. If you want real professionals who can give vaccines safely and confidently, go to PetWell Clinic in Ahwatukee. They are experienced, reasonably priced, and actually know how to work with dogs of all sizes. Our Rottie was fully muzzled and growling (a completely normal reaction during shots), yet Vetco’s staff seemed intimidated by his size and refused to finish his vaccines, suggesting sedation elsewhere. This is incompetence at its finest. They were polite in conversation, and we were able to book online and were seen quickly, so they earned their one extra star for that but they are not capable of doing their job. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that knows what they’re doing.

Dr. Kirk has been absolutely wonderful. Ronald came in with some constipation and she was nothing but kind, sympathetic and understanding about all of my worries. There was another veterinarian who said she came in from another store as well as another vet tech, who I unfortunately didn't get the names of, but who were just as amazing. While we were waiting on Ronald to make some progress in the litter box, there was an emergency pet who came in. It's very clear Dr. Kirk and all who work at this location cares very deeply about the patients and pet parents who come in. They regularly make sure not only the pets are okay, but the humans as well. I am also fairly low income and came in with restrictions around budget, and they did their best to make it as affordable as could be. At the end of the day, supplies and resources (as well as people) need to be compensated for, but I truly feel Ronald and I recieved genuinely amazing treatment here.

Rude staff although Vet knew his stuff. Treated like a third class citizen, I will not be back. I understand you are busy and give 4 minutes for each appointment but why schedule like that to be so snappy and short with customers? Ever thought about adding a couple minutes to each appointment to treat people with a little more respect? I don’t care if the vaccines were $1 each, I would never return.

I took in a 5 week old kitten with diarrhea, they said they only see pets that are over 6 weeks and healthy, they couldn't do anything for me. They only do shots and vaccinations.... Something that would have been nice to know when I scheduled online. The store gets 2 stars for friendly staff, good products, and clean building.
