How to Save Money at KC Animal Hospital & Pet Resort

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It all started with Liz understanding our urgency and working us into the same day schedule. We met Dr. Cox and the assisting staff. Super nice, all of them. I appreciate how Dr. Cox took the time to come and explain what his initial diagnosis was and his suggested treatment. Even during the treatment, he came back to the room to explain what was going on. Let’s just say he has an excellent bedside manner. We 1000% recommend KC Animal Hospital. Our pup had an eye infection that got worse over night. Our normal vet could not get him in for 5 days since they are closed on Friday’s. They referred us to Dr. Cox at KC. Dr. Cox even offered for us to come back the following day if we needed help with the antibiotic eye drop. We took him up on his offer to flush the eye again and get drops in. $0.00 office visit. Thank you to KC Animal Hospital and the entire staff. We appreciate you and so does Bear! We will definitely return for Bear’s regular care.

The very best doctors and staff. Excellent care of both my fur babies and me! Groomer is fantastic; she always does a great job. I’ve used their boarding services several times and have been so grateful to receive updates and a picture or two of my girl playing with one of the vet techs. The front office staff is sweet and kind and always willing to help me out with anything I need or questions I have. Dr Pirotte and Dr Cox are exceptional and I trust them without hesitation. Lastly I think their prices are very reasonable for the quality of care and services they provide. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Been taking my cat(s) here for several years. The doctors and staff always friendly/personable. Aside from, of course, having to hear hard news about your animals sometimes, each visit is as comfortable as possible in my opinion. While the bill is not cheap by any means, I think that animal treatment/veterinary care in general is costly, almost anywhere you go. Plus, the facility is very clean, professional, and location (a 5 min drive from home) being where it is, all does soften the financial side of things. It seems the doctor also keeps an eye out for good value/lower priced tests when ordering any off-site labs, etc. so that is very appreciated. Also, Ive always received a call directly from the doctor to go over test results when they are in (results which have thankfully always come in a timely manner too). I think that’s one of the best touches —instead of emailing a document of numbers I may or may not understand. Gives me a chance to ask questions if needed. Yeah all around a comfortable place I wouldn’t want to have to switch from, especially since my cat is now so familiar with it. Big thanks to both Dr. Pirrote and Dr. Cox, and entire team there.

I was so impressed with KC Animal Hospital and Boarding from the moment I made the call to the moment we left our appointment. They were able to squeeze our pup in same-day for an upset tummy, and every step of the way we felt completely cared for. They took the time to talk through our dog’s full medical history, symptoms, and frustrations with our previous vet, and laid out a thoughtful plan moving forward. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly kind, helpful, and understanding — especially as we navigated a last-minute medical boarding situation. We live in Gilbert, so it's a bit out of the way for us, but after this experience, we’ve found our new vet. Huge thanks to Dr. Cox and the entire team there!

new to the area and called to get an estimate of cost$$ for how much a certain feline test would be. I had called many other vets throughout the day and got an answer immediately. This one said they’d send me an email with the estimated cost, i waited 5 hours and still haven’t got anything. This was something I needed done today to be able to take my cats to a vet TODAY. I called again and they said they were waiting for the vet techs to give me an emailed estimate. Each vet i called, easily got me an answer on the phone. Waste of my day off.
