How to Save Money at Four Peaks Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my cat Precious here in September of last year because she had awful teeth and had gotten really sick and skinny because she wasn't eating. I brought her here, and Dr. Pruitt immediately got to work. He removed most of her teeth, kept her a few days to make sure she was well enough to come home, and gave us everything we needed to nurse my little cat back to health. And it worked!! A year later, and she's a playful, still ravenous (but that's normal), and an incredibly cuddly little girl. I couldn't thank you all enough for what you did for me and her.

We are so fortunate to have found Dr. Pruitt! He treated our senior GSD with Valley Fever and a sick kitty with a nasty upper respiratory infection (and a very grumpy cat disposition!) who wouldn’t eat or drink for days. We have tried other vets in the area only to feel frustrated by the level of care received for the prices charged. Four Peaks pricing was very reasonable for the loving care our pets received. As long as we are in the valley and he is practicing, we will be loyal clients!

The vet and owner, Dr. Pruitt, is a hard working and caring person. He is very busy, yet still was there after hours picking up the phone when our 14 yr old dog Moose was having an emergency. Moose had to stay there multiple days over a holiday weekend and the doctor was there every day and brought him back to health. He spent a lot of time explaining things to us and talked to us each day... I would highly recommend him if you care as much about your pet as we do ours. UPDATE: Unfortunately our family pet Moose passed. There was nothing else Dr Pruitt could do, his kidneys and pancreas were completely shut down and we tried to nurse him along with IVs and such despite him not able to even force him to eat or drink. RIP buddy Moose. He had a great life and we did with him too. Dr. Pruitt came to our house for it, he was really respectful and understanding, it was a sad event but was so great having him pass in his favorite chair with the whole family there feeling loved and his long struggle was over. Dr Pruitt did this after hours with very short notice, and all the tools and medicine to sedate him peacefully, was amazing to have this option for the family. He was able to take Moose away quickly too once over, which avoided a lot of pain for us. He was cremated and a couple weeks later Dr Pruitt had his ashes and a nice presentation to remember him by. Thank you sir, we couldn't have asked for a better doctor for Moose and us.

Dr. Aubrey Pruitt is a great veterinarian who really loves the animals. He has huge integrity and is extremely generous and kind. I wish I had known him when my dogs were getting older because he will do their dental even though the dogs get older and the price he quoted was excellent. If your dogs or cats have rotten teeth they are suffering and its cruel to put them through that. Dr. Pruitt is a class act.
