How to Save Money at Deer Creek Animal Hospital & Pet Resort

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Horrible experience. Went to an appointment to establish care, update vaccines and have dog's eyes checked. Requested records to be transferred from previous vet. When I entered for appointment the records hadn't been transferred which could have been brought up to me prior to the appointment so i could helped make that happen. The main issue though, was how rude and condescending the vet was throughout the visit. She took no time to build any rapport with me or my dog with any history and immediately labeled him as aggressive when a minute of discussion and friendlier introduction could have made both of us comfortable. Her tone throughout the visit was condescending and she seemed to take smug pleasure in pointing out whatever I might have done wrong. Her exam on the dog was poor which I expressed. She left the room laughing at me mockingly. I thereafter decided I didn't even want the vaccination because I didn't want any more interaction with such a person and ended the visit. I'm disgusted I even paid $66 to see such a negative individual who has no people skills and has poor animal handling skills. I would never trust such a place with animals.

We recently moved and I was nervous about finding a new vet. Dr. Balsino quickly put me at ease. He took the time to speak with me about each of my three cats. I can tell he genuinely cares about animals. The other staff were very friendly too.

We’ve been long-time clients of Deer Creek Animal Hospital, but our recent experiences have left us less than pleased. When we went to pick up our two dogs from daycare recently, we were hit with an unexpected $150 bill for booster shots. At no point were we informed about these boosters being administered, which turned into an unpleasant and costly surprise during the holiday season. Additionally, there seems to be some ongoing disorganization, possibly due to understaffing or miscommunication. A few times, we’ve been told our dogs were scheduled for daycare, only to arrive and be turned away. It’s incredibly frustrating to plan around these schedules only to have our dogs denied entry. We used to have such confidence in Deer Creek, but this pattern of unexpected charges and scheduling issues has us reconsidering. We hope these issues can be addressed because we’ve truly appreciated the care our dogs have received here in the past.

I had a great experience from the time I booked my pups grooming appointment to when I picked him up. The staff was so kind (I’ve had some really terrible recent experiences so this was refreshing!) and helpful! Jen did a PERFECT job on my 7 month old rowdy golden doodle! He’s a bit of a handful so I was extremely impressed when I picked him up and saw what a beautiful job she did on him! Super cute teddy bear cut. Cost was very reasonable especially compared to others. Thank you all for making this a good experience all the way around!

Just moved to the neighborhood and looking for a new Vet for my 3 dogs & 2 cats. Upon receiving a welcome card from Deer Creek Animal hospital, I checked out the reviews & facility. I was very impressed & made appts. for all my animals. Loved all the staff and could feel their care. Shortly after my 14yr old cats quality of life took a turn-- I made the heartbreaking decision to put her down. With tears pouring for my sweet girl--we were given the utmost care and respect by the tech & Dr. at Deer Creek-- the comfort I felt as my Neenee crossed over her rainbow bridge. I'm still feeling very blessed to have found them and comforted by how they cared for me & my sweet family member. Neenee's Happy days photo & sweet dreams Thank you from the bottom of my heart Deer Creek Animal Hospital staff 💕🐾💝
