How to Save on Veterinary Costs at First Equine Veterinary Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

We have only been clients of First Equine for about 6 months. They have helped us tremendously in this short amount of time. From caring for and diagnosing our young warmblood with EPM to providing our geriatric pony the best care and compassion for a peaceful passing. I couldn’t be more pleased with their care.

I’ve been utilizing Dr. First’s group since becoming a new horse owner in October. We’ve unfortunately dealt with EPM and ulcers in our short time with our horse, and Dr. First’s team has been FANTASTIC every step of the way. Dr. Bas quickly picked up on his EPM symptoms and put him on the road to recovery immediately. I’ve spoken with Drs. Patrick and Brittany First on different occasions and they have been SO easy to speak with. The staff has been insanely patient with my new mom, never ending questions with downright cheery responses every step of the way. Seriously, I cannot express even in these words how great it is to work with these guys.

Very knowledgeable, caring and moved slow with my horse. I brought in a mustang that I wasn't sure how he was going to act and they were very understanding and patient for me to take my time getting him setup in the stall. Also was running very behind making it to my appointment time and they still saw me! Highly recommend!

My daughter and I traveled to Mobile from Dallas to try a horse. I set up the appointment for the first one after the weekend we tried him so that we could be there for the PPE. They were so accommodating letting me know that if the horse was not a fit, I could cancel over the weekend. The PPE was very thorough and Dr. Rodebaugh explained everything very well to us. I would definitely call on them again if we were looking at a horse in the area.
