How to Save Money at Duke Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Duke. Extremely professional, thorough, kind, and considerate. My Golden Retriever needed dental care and he went above and beyond to ensure that my puppy was comfortable and taken care of. He even stayed late to get everything resolved that same day so we did not have to make multiple trips from Mississippi. I would and will continue to recommend him to everyone I know for their pet needs. Thank you for your wonderful care and service.

Do not use Duke Animal Clinic! Our cat was being treated for hepatic lipidosis. Dr duke said the feeding tube was mandatory for a chance of survival and she would need it for 6-8 weeks. After a week with the tube She was getting better so we took her home to continue care at home but The tube fell out and I took her back within 30 min to have it put back in. That was a Saturday and I did not hear back from him until Monday right before close. He claimed she took an interest in Tuna oil so he did not put the tube back in and said i could come get her. Well she wasn't really eating so i took her back. He finally put the tube back in (it was 5 days after the first one fell out). But it was too late she regressed into a worse state than before. I went and visited her and told the vet tech to let Dr duke I wanted to take her home because I didn't want her to die alone. Dr duke finally called me back after hours and said I could come get her tomorrow and that she was starting to look a little brighter again but she died that night at the clinic. I requested her vet record and was horrified to see there was no documentation of treatment for 2 days prior to her death. When I confronted Dr Duke about this his response was "I do not have a scribe following me around". He had zero empathy for the loss of our sweet cat.

We traveled to Dr Duke from Gulfport because he was recommended for my son’s furbaby’s dental work. He did not disappoint ! He went above and beyond to explain everything that needed to be done and went out of his way to take care of Samson right then so we didn’t have to wait the weekend and make another trip. He and his staff are amazing and we would highly recommend him for your furbaby’s needs.

Dr. Duke is one is one of the most caring veterinarians in Mobile. He is the only vet I use. He will treat emergencies at no charge if the circumstances warrant. He will come into the clinic, even if it's inconvenient for him, to feed and/or medicate patients every couple of hours. He euthenized our beloved dog, Ruger, and was extremely compassionate. He even let our daughter make her own clay paw. He takes emergencies on Sundays, and stays long hours after closing to tend to patients. He has been in practice for many years and has a wealth of knowledge. If you want a caring, knowledgeable veterinarian, I would highly recommend Dr. Duke.
