How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is exceptional. The care for my pet and how respectful they were really helped a horrible situation feel a little better. I'm so grateful this ER is here. Also, they did not price gouge me like the one downtown. I was permitted to stay with her, watch her exrays being taken, and they did everything in the room and didn't wisk her off behind some closed door. I believe it helped keep my sweet baby more calm in a stressful, scary situation. Thank you, Shelbi, Charles, and the wonderful vet and other staff!!!

We had to bring our puppy, Goose, to VEG for an emergency visit, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the care he received. From the moment we walked in, everyone was incredibly kind, professional, and reassuring. They took the time to explain everything thoroughly and answered every single question we had. Dr. E was especially amazing!! She was genuinely excited to see Goose and went above and beyond to make sure he was taken care of. You can tell that everyone here truly loves animals and wants nothing but the best for them. It’s never fun dealing with a pet emergency, but knowing that Goose was in such great hands made all the difference. Thank you to the entire team for your compassion and expertise! As you can see, Goose wasn’t stressed the entire time we were there. 2nd picture is the toy he received from their grand opening a couple weeks ago.

Thank you to the VEG team last night! They made us feel so much better right when we got there and made sure not only our dog Rolo was okay but we were too. They paid so much care and attention and were honestly so funny as well. Alanna even took the time to snap a cute Polaroid of us 💜 highly recommend taking your animals here. Thank you to all the ladies that helped us and to Charles as well!!

I was so glad I chose to go to this emergency vet - my bunny was clearly very sick around 1am one night and I drove him 10 minutes to this veterinarian, where I was seen right away (minimal paperwork or hassle) and shown into a private room where I could be with my bunny. They were fantastic about examining him and making him comfortable with a heating pad while they explained the treatment options and costs. He was able to get his body temperature up, but while we were looking at treatment options, my bunny passed away very suddenly. I'm very grateful that he was able to be comfortable for his last 15 or 20 minutes; if I had stayed at home I'm sure it would have been so much worse. Obviously I was horrified by the situation, but the best thing Veterinary Emergency Group did over the course of an otherwise terrible night was providing an unbelievable level of compassion and support after my bunny passed. They wrapped his body in a towel and gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye in a private room and made sure they were available to talk and help me with arrangements for cremation, an urn, etc. Most impactful of all is that they didn't charge me for any of the treatment options we decided on, nor even for the vet visit itself. They struck me as so incredibly caring, compassionate and genuinely concerned with both my bunny's welfare as well as my own. So thank you again to this veterinarian! I will forever recommend this place to anyone because of how they were able to soothe the pain of a horrible experience. I'm heartbroken that Yeti didn't make it, but so grateful that he was able to pass away in a comfortable place surrounded by people who really care.

I cannot thank everyone at Veterinary Emergency Group enough. From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of peace—the staff, nurses, and doctors were all so friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about every animal that comes through their doors. They provided immediate attention to my kitten’s situation and were incredibly reassuring throughout the entire experience. One of the things I loved most was the open design of the clinic. It was so comforting not having to hand my kitten off and wonder what was happening behind closed doors. I was able to stay by his side the entire time, and I got to see how they treated other pets and families as well, each with the same compassion, urgency, and care they gave us. It’s clear they are quick, knowledgeable, and deeply dedicated to every animal they see. Not only did they get my kitten all the tests and medications he needed, but they also answered every single call I made with new questions. They were always patient, kind, and willing to help further if needed. They cared for my baby’s health while also helping ease my anxiety, which is such a rare and admirable quality in veterinary care. They truly treat your pets as if they were their own. I’m so thankful for VEG. My kitten is finally feeling better and starting to eat again, and I owe it all to the incredible team there. No one wants to spend their weekend at the emergency vet, but they made both Chip and I feel as comfortable as possible.
