How to Save Money at Princeton Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. C is our go to Vet. The vet is about 35 min drive from us. But we love her. She has taken care of my old pug and he had so many issues with his heart. He was never scared to go to the vet. I always knew I could count on her to know what to prescribe. She had extended his life past the time we would have ever thought for him for his CHF. For that we are soo grateful. She also gave us 2 extra days with him towards the end with God's help. She and the other vet helped us a ton during the end of his life with a ton of guidance and talking me through the process. The staff is sweet and kind. Even when my dog had an accident they are understanding and were not mean to us. I will be taking my 1 yr old dog here as well. My old pug has since passed from CHF end stage. And now we have a rescue pug ready to become a new patient with Dr. C. The prices are reasonable for Prescriptions AND VISITS. Also Dr. C IS NOT pushy with x-rays, Prescriptions, and other things. She let's us take our time to come to our own conclusions and then take her advice. We discuss and she never is annoyed whem I'm asking her questions again repeatedly lol. She is loving to my dogs. and the staff are too. My family is forever grateful to her and the staff. They also do a wonderful package for cremation. And a sweet card. I forgot to ask them for pawprints of my pug when he passed away and I literally thought I forever lost the chance to have his little paw prints. So having them unexpectedly send me a beautiful card with his cherished paw prints was amazing! I cried with joy to see these! I will frame their card with his prints. And we are so grateful to them and have recommended them to our family and friends.

Dr C and the staff are the best! Bandit was picked up on the road after being on his own for only the Lord knows how long. He had greatly improved thanks to Dr. C and everyone there!

I have been taking my 12 Silky to Princeton vet since I rescued him 1 yaer ago. They were always friendly and helpful. When I got home from work my dog had vomited 13 times. I called at 4:30 and was told they couldn't see me today and they were booked tomorrow. They then told me I could come and be a walk in and they would try and work me in but I would probably be sitting there for HOURS! That's unacceptable to me. If that's how they are going to treat my pet I will not be going back. The lady on the phone could careless. They are great if you have an appointment. Don't expect help if your dog gets sick and you need them. They aren't there for your pet.

I've been bringing my animals to Dr. C here at Princeton Vet Clinic pretty much my whole life. Dr. Cowart and the rest of the staff are always friendly, honest, and helpful. The ladies that help in the front and with the exams are the best. There's few other people I trust with my pets. I love and appreciated this place!
