How to Save Money at Joshua Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet herself is great and friendly. The receptionist is always rude and condescending. I have receipts and vaccine proof from other places and then she says it was denied at my appointment…….Treats people like garbage. My dog is totally up to date (moved from another clinic) but she won’t listen or communicate without talking over you. I won’t be back. Sad that I can’t even use my hometown vet due to her attitude. If she would maybe look and apply the paperwork to the system we wouldn’t Be treated like scum.

After we got our new pup we were looking for a vet in the area. We took a chance and it was the best choice. Our girl has had a few stays with them and each time she comes back a happy healthy girl. She’s even had a few emergency trips to see Dr. Jobe and they’ve always gotten her taken care of quickly! Definitely recommend

Suzy is great! Luna enjoys going here and I appreciate them being kind to my baby. She's a pittie mix and they don't judge. They aren't exactly on time with appointments, but it's worth the quality care.

Well, never returning here again. Let me start with the Dr’s are great and care completely. Good pricing too. However, the front face of the clinic does not care. (the receptionist) The few times i have called up here, i am talked to with a tone of “give me your info, then get off the phone.” and yesterday was the final straw. I called in to hopefully get my cat up there asap, but instead of her asking about what’s wrong with my cat, i was informed that the clinic is closing early over the weekend, and that it is fully booked for the weekend due to easter. Am i mad about the special holiday hours? No, most vets suck in this aspect. What got me, is when i told her i was with my cat all night in the er the night before, THEN, she started asking me questions about my cat. (Still, her questions were on the edge condescending.) and suddenly the possibility of me getting her up there magically opened up. After i informed her that my cat was sick with some bug and the ER i was at stabilized her until i could get her to this clinic, she said that she would call me back after she spoke with the DR about if she could get me worked in. Am i upset that other people had appointments, and my cat wasnt being prioritized over them? No. im mad because she never ****** called me back like she said she would. I then took my cat back to the ER, and happily paid over $1,000+. “Happily” because I would rather pay triple for a little stomach bug than have to call some ignorant “experienced” desk lady back that cares more about informing me the hours of their operations than asking me about how my baby girl is. And then, not calling me back to at least try to get something on the calendar. Once again, treatment here and care here is AMAZING. But a receptionist / office manager will always be how your clinic is perceived.

This clinic is unprofessional. Being in there was a constant rush, questions rarely ever got answered and sometimes they'd have to run back to the vet in regards to the medication that they should be knowledgeable on after being in charge of my pets. The front receptionist lady is rude, has attempted to brush off things when speaking concerns for my pets, and they didn't notate anything I told them over the phone, so every single time I was repeating information they already received multiple times. The communication in general with this clinic is poor, and I would suggest going to another clinic instead. I have been to several clinics and haven't dealt with the communication issues like this one. The doctors are very knowledgeable, if a little abrasive - but they're Healthcare professionals I would trust my pets to.
