How to Save Money at West Bearden Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was our first time here after moving from Georgia. Rose and Luna are very knowledgeable and welcoming cant say enough about them two. Dr Jones is amazing, he listened to us and answered every question. Pixie has seen 2 Dr in her life time and this was the first time she was so relaxed and even laid down, she has never done that before. I would definitely recommend this place.

PLEASE READ. I recently took my golden retriever in to this practice for his "courtesy birthday bath." I usually take him to the Bearden Hill location but they told me he needed to go to West Bearden for his bath since they have the proper bathing equipment. When I dropped him off, I mentioned to the individual at the front desk that he has bad ears but not to do anything about them. I returned a few hours later and upon picking him up, the same receptionist tried to give me a bill for an ear cleaning. I explained that I did not ask for an ear cleaning or ear exam and I will not be paying for this service. He said, "ok, I will remove the bill." WELL... two weeks later, I get a bill in the mail for $138.00 for an exam, an ear cleaning, ear meds (which I did not take at the time), and A VACCINE THAT I DID NOT ASK FOR OR WANT!?!? Without my knowledge or consent, the veterinarian and staff at West Bearden gave my dog a vaccine that he did not need and that I did not ask for or want. I had no idea they even gave the vaccine until receiving this bill in the mail. When I called to discuss this matter, the practice manager apologized but also made excuses and dismissed me as if it was not that big of a deal. This is a HUGE deal! After speaking with the staff at this location, I contacted my usual location, Bearden Hill, and shared what happened. This receptionist also appeared to make light of the situation and shared that the receptionist at the West Bearden location is "on his way out" and is a poor employee who has been making a lot of mistakes but they don't want to fire him. If they do not fire this man after this incident, they deserve to lose business. I do not plan on taking my dog back to Bearden Hill and I will NEVER again take my dog to West Bearden. I understand people make mistakes, but this is not just a simple error that should be shrugged off. MY DOG WAS GIVEN A VACCINE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE THAT HE DID NOT NEED. Absolutely unacceptable. Beware of the incompetence at West Bearden Hill Veterinary Hospital.

I can not say enough good things about this veterinarian!!! Dr. Hand, her assistants, and entire staff were all so nice and knowledgeable for my Ally Gator. She came in with an ear infection and was in good hands the entire time she was here. If I was local I would exclusively bring her here but unfortunately I am not. I highly recommend bringing your sweet babies here for anything you need! :)

I love West Bearden. They are truly the best and my dogs only go to them. Dr Brott is so good to all my dogs. Always gives them the best care. He saved our dog Gunnie when he had pneumonia and because of him Gunnie is still with us. We recently lost our beloved Tinkerbell to old age on a Sunday and Dr Brott was on call and returned our call immediately to help us with her after passing process. The entire staff sent a sympathy care and called to say how they will miss her too. They are very compassion and we will never take our dogs any where else.
