How to Save Money at St. Francis Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was my new kitty’s first vet visit and Lindsay and the staff made it such a good experience. Lindsay was great with getting Reese’s vitals and listening to my concerns. The vet was wonderful in explaining everything that was going on and how to treat her. Highly recommend!!

St.Francis is a good vet office…my pooch loves both of the vets and all the techs. We have been with this practice since our pooch was a pup- he is now 8. We have gone through a few different vets there and we are happy that the ones we have had were able to diagnose and treat his issues. Our dog had Parvo when we first got him and the office helped nurse him through it. He also developed a thyroid issue and the office has been great through all his treatments.

All of the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and the doctors are very knowledgeable. I have been taking my animals there for a couple years, and I would not go anywhere else. Dr. Elizeus is fabulous, and all of the staff are amazing! Wouldn't trust anyone else with my pets

I’m so grateful for not only Francesca, who is always so kind to me, thank you, and Dr. Addis, thank you for all of your help and support.😻 A BIG THANK YOU to Donald!! You TRULY made a stressful situation less stressful for me. No one wants to see their baby not feeling well. You have such a calming presence about you. You’re so kind and patient, it’s very much appreciated. You’re so knowledgeable and always one step ahead, making sure everything is being taken care of properly. Thank you so much for being so kind and patient with Lola and me. You helped us out more than you know. Thank you not only for explaining what you’re doing and answering my questions but for always showing me what you’re doing and how to do it myself once I get home, which is very helpful. You truly care and it shows! Thanks again Donald😻😻😻

Everyone at St.Francis animal hospital are absolutely amazing. They started seeing my Digger Dog in like 2015 after switching from another vet who lost my trust when he was extremely sick and they would not call me back. The team at St.Francis got him in immediately when I called in a panic. He had pancreatitis and was very sick they took care of him over the next few days. Digger was 140 lbs of beast In His prime he was English Breed Chocolate lab. He was never overweight he was just big. They loved him and treated him so well. When I called in December 2020 and said I think it’s time he’s really struggling they didn’t try to push any crazy tests or anything they knew as well. Digger was born sept 2007 and passed December 2020. With all the staff’s love and support. They went above and beyond for us. I got sympathy cards In The mail with his beautiful paw prints and some of his fur. They arranged everything for his cremation and were so respectful and sensitive when it was time for him to come back home. I will never forget the kindness they showed us. Highly recommend them to everyone that has a pet.
