How to Save Money at Robinson Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love Robinson Animal Hospital. I have been coming here for at least 8 years. Dr. Keffer is my go-to for all my pocket pets; rats, and now chinchillas. The staff are friendly and kind. They sent me a sympathy card when a rat I brought in passed away the next day (he was sick they did nothing wrong). They take CareCredit, which is helpful to break down payments into smaller increments. Pics of the pets for Google tax.

I wouldn’t want anyone else to take care of my baby Sadie. This will be a LONG review but the overall short version is this… take your pet here for the ultimate treatment and care. Not only will your pet be respected but you will be as well. Let’s start back in March 2022. I brought my cat in for the first time here for her normal injections. The doctor informed me that she saw a potential cancerous sore in her mouth. She was pretty confident it was cancer due to her illnesses and her age. Me being a young woman my cat was my life I cried profusely in the room, the doctor was so comforting to me and talked with me on all of my options and even gave me time to cry and call my mom. Not once did I feel rushed to make a decision or even that I was over reacting. The doctor was insanely kind and respectful. I did see a review on here that said they are late and behind often. While that has not always been true for me please know when going to a vet sometimes people are behind because they are giving people like me time to process and think what I want to do. Ultimately, I did put my cat down about a month later because the medicine was not working and she stopped eating. As I was putting her down, the staff made it known that I could take my time and as much time needed with my cat. I went alone and the staff even hugged me and this made me feel not alone. They then sent me a card with all staff signature. Recently in August 2022 i became a first time dog mom!!! They guided me through everything for first time dog moms since I got a 8 week puppy. They gave me a what to know book and some pamphlets. My dog was recently spayed in January 2023. Unfortunately my dog was somehow getting to her incisions without me seeing.. I was able to send photos to the dr and they wanted to see her for a quick visit the same day!! They gave us some medicine and cleaned the stitches as well. All I can say is I have never in my life felt more valued and respected. TAKE YOUR PET HERE.

I started taking my dog here about 2 years ago to deal with a bad back issue. We thought we were down to the last few days with him but the doctors there were able to figure it out and give him extra time. We had to say goodbye to him last weekend, and even though that was done at a separate location, I still received a card with messages from a ton of the staff. Not only did they take great care of him, but we always felt like a priority and well taken care of. The staff is very knowledgeable and you can tell they care very deeply about every pet that is brought in. If and when I get a new pet, I’ll 100% still be using them.

I take my rabbits here and Dr. Keffer is incredible! She is so outgoing, knowledgeable, and empathetic. She truly cares for the animals she treats and will always do what's best for your pet. My only issue is that every time I try to call the office, the phones are always busy. When they do answer, I am put on hold most times. I understand that they are doing their best, so I'll continue taking my animals here! The technicians are wonderful as well.
