How to Save Money at Affinity Veterinary Center of Malvern

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Disappointed and Disrespected at Affinity Veterinary Center My 10-week-old Shiba Inu puppy, Kota, injured her foot while playing. Due to our recent adoption, we hadn't established a regular vet yet, but Affinity was familiar from taking our cats there. We called them after-hours and they were able to see us, which we initially appreciated. We brought her in last night 1/2/24 and the vet we saw was nice, however, she couldn't definitively diagnose Kota's injury. Although we agreed to pay for X-rays hoping for a clear answer, even the X-rays left doubt. Frustratingly, the vet then offered for a further, expensive evaluation of the X-rays, even though when I asked she said it wouldn’t change the treatment plan either way. This insistence on additional charges without definitive benefit felt unsettling and, frankly, money-grabbing. We opted out of that and they wrapped Kotas leg in a bandage which looked very bulky. They also gave us a “boot” to put over the bandage to “keep it dry”, which was made from some sort of plastic, medical bag that appeared to be previously used as it had remnants of a peeled-off sticker on it and was laced with gauze through slits they cut into the bag. It seemed very strange. They also emphasized to make sure Kota continued to walk on her leg with the bandage. This morning it became clear, however, that Kota could not walk with the way her leg was bandaged. I called back to express concerns, and they said we could bring her back to take another look. My sister brought her back in today 1/3/24 for the second visit. She saw a different vet, Dr. Meredith, who I later learned is the owner of the practice. Her demeanor was aggressive and condescending. She accused us of "babying" Kota and questioned our understanding of pain. Instead of addressing the issue with the bandage, she dismissed our concerns and made my sister feel like a nuisance. To top it all off, Dr. Meredith claimed Kota needed a rabies shot stating that she is “required by law” to give her the shot - an intimidating and untrue statement. My sister initially agreed because she felt she had to, but when the vet left the room my sister called me to ask what to do as she knew we already had plans to get Kota her rabies shot elsewhere. I told her to decline the shot. When she did, Dr Meredith lashed out at both my sister and her own staff stating “now you’re going to have to redo all the paperwork” creating an unprofessional and hostile atmosphere. After hearing how the second appointment went from my sister, I called the office to try to better understand what happened and Dr. Meredith declined to speak with me. We ended up paying additional fees for a pointless second visit and left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and worried about Kota's well-being. This is not the kind of care I expect from a veterinarian, especially one entrusted with my beloved puppy. While the other staff at Affinity may be friendly, the owner's behavior is unacceptable. I urge anyone considering this practice to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other qualified vets who prioritize animal welfare and treat their clients with respect, something Affinity sorely lacks.

Great experience, I felt my cat was truly cared for. Dr. Meredith and Nurse Mackenzie were comprehensive and kind. We got all test results same day. Very appreciative of Affinity Vet Center!

We are so thankful we found Affinity! Our rescue pup, Rusty, has had more than his fair share of issues over the years, and Affinity has been by our side every step of the way providing amazing care. Every staff member has treated Rusty as if he was their own, and that comfort goes such a long way. A bonus is the office set-up, it lacks the cold, sterile feel of other offices we tried first. Dr. Meredith and her staff are thorough and have caught things early which have allowed us so much extra time with our sweet boy. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Affinity!

7 months after moving to the area, my husband and I brought home our first puppy, a Sheepadoodle! They have cared for Henry as their own and have been more than professional and reliable. They are organized and timely. Every person from the Vets to the vet techs and other applicable staff have been very friendly, too. And since you are unable to go in, they call you once they are finished. And every call is never rushed, you are welcome to ask questions, and it is very thorough. We had an emergency visit yesterday and I was very thankful they were able to fit Henry into their schedule as he needed attention quickly. Over the next 24 hours, they have followed up with me twice to ensure Henry is recovering on pace. I love the follow ups. From a business standpoint, I just really appreciate when people/companies say they are going to follow up and actually do follow through with their word!

Our French bulldog has been going here for 5 years and we have nothing but positive things to say about this place! Our dog has been treated like family and we wholeheartedly trust Affinity to advise and treat our dog appropriately. They are reasonable when it comes to pricing and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommend Affinity for any and all pet care services!
