How to Save Money at Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Confederate Woods is a loving caring place for pets and their owners. The doctors, vet techs and staff are helpful and kind. I feel very good about taking my senior dogs there for all their needs.

I was able to book an appointment online last minute during the holidays so that alone deserves 5 stars. Once at the appointment getting checked in was smooth, they were able to tell me costs up front and work with me to stay within the budget I had. The doctor , Dr. Bush, and tech were so gentle and kind with my pup. I truly appreciate all the did and my pup if anything at least appreciated the free cheese snack. Thank you again!

They were absolutely amazing with my Rottweiler!!!! They were completely on her level. My Dixie rose was such a good girl, they were knowledgeable. Fit me in as a new patient same day and even handle the initial phone call with such care (pet parent losing my mind) and got me same day appointment. Thank goodness Dixie is okay but we have a good bill of health she didn’t even know she got a rabies shot. They were so quick and amazing. I could just go on and on. Actually can’t wait till my next appointments in the future. They treat you like family!

I am a canine behavior consultant new to the area and I can share that (with my dog Katie) we had an excellent first time visit. Low stress handling practices by all were evident and everyone we encountered were pleasant professionals. This practice came highly recommended-and my time there yesterday evidenced just that! Wonderful to cross paths with caring, compassionate people from my very first phone call to schedule an appointment to interactions with staff assistant to educational visit with veterinarian. We will continue to sing the praise of this practice to our friends and clients.

Very disappointed, I actually really like the doctor and the tech. Not my regular vet, but we stay there in the summer and I was going to use them as my alternate vet for our summer location. Their prices are extremely high compared to my normal vet.I asked her to write me a prescription for the pills. She said she couldn't do that.I found out that the pill she prescribed me could be filled at the local walmart pharmacy only an hour after I left so I came back and asked her to write me a prescription and to take the pills that she had given me back. Note that they were in foil wrap packageing. I was very nice about it, but the receptionist said they couldn't do that. A few weeks later, I received a letter from them, telling me that I need to find a new vet when I called to ask why they informed me it was over the fact I was un happy with their pricing. They didn't like the fact that I found out that the pills that they charged me $91.00 dollars for 4 pills I could get at the local pharmacy for $35.00 and came back to ask them to write a prescription. They never did one follow up phone call for my dog. She proceeded to be very sick and we had to go back to my regular vet. At which she needed more of the same meds, and antibiotics, which their vet should have put her on and did not. When asked my reg vet never hesitated she sent the prescriptions to our local pharmacy rather than dispensing it there to save me money. Our follow up was before. I received the letter from Confederate Woods. SO WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IS THAT CONFEDERATE WOODS IS ALL ABOUT $$$ RATHER THAN THE CARE.AND HEALTH OF YOUR PET!!
