How to Save Money at Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (VSEC)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I m so grateful that my husband found this place and this place actually saved my little boy’s life. My 3 years old cat wasn’t himself and took him for emergency care last Saturday evening. As soon as I walked into the facility I knew right away it could be a right place. Friendly and warm welcomed by receptionists and took action right away. My cat was hospitalized and during his stay, he was under care by Dr Dabri and many other technicians and nurses. They are all so wonderful! Caring! We communicated via text messages and got updated information through out the day. And allow me to visit and stay with him while he was hospitalized, it means a lot to me. Recommend this place to all animal lovers!

For full disclosure, I am a veterinarian who found themselves in need of emergency veterinary services for my own personal dog, Bart, after he had an unexpected encounter with a coyote in the woods and earned himself a puncture wound on his thigh. As a result, I got one of the rare opportunities to be on the worried pet owner side of the equation, and I have to say that Dr. Dicker and his entire team couldn’t have been kinder, more efficient, or professional through the entire experience. The facility is beautiful, state of the art and pristine, the level of care is outstanding, and the staff are all warm, friendly and kind- all making for precisely the kind of experience a worried pet-parent could hope for in their time of need. I would pay anything for my pups but the price was also extremely reasonable. I am happy to say that my boy is home and expected to make full recovery. Thank you VSEC! The community is fortunate to have such a wonderful resource at its finger tips!

“We had to bring our kitty in after a scary fall, and the entire team treated her with so much love, gentleness, and care. They were compassionate, attentive, and made us feel reassured during a stressful moment. We’re so grateful to have a 24-hour veterinary hospital so close to home. Thank you for taking such good care of our little Luz — we will definitely come back if ever needed.”

When my dog Finn suddenly collapsed two weeks ago, I called VSEC and rushed him there immediately. The team met me at my car and acted incredibly fast, taking him straight into the hospital. It turned out Finn was bleeding internally from ruptured tumors on his spleen. The VSEC team moved quickly, and I truly believe Finn would not be alive today without their expertise and urgency. Finn needed an emergency splenectomy, and although the specialty surgeon Dr.Greenberg had already left for the day he immediately turned around and came back as soon as he received the call about Finn's emergency. I will forever be grateful to the entire team for saving my dog's life. From the moment I made the emergency call through the day after surgery, the doctors, technicians, and administrative staff were compassionate, professional, and supportive. They guided me through every step during one of the scariest moments of my life. Their ability to stay calm, act quickly, and provide such excellent care made all the difference for Finn and for me. Thank You, VSEC.

Excellent care and communication. Our dog was a transfer from another emergency facility and they coordinated well. The surgeon Dr. Greenberg did the surgery. He was thorough and kept us posted throughout the stay and answered all my questions. Did not love unexpected charges on the final bill (relatively minor, but still). The facility was clean, beautiful and quiet. Staff is kind and helpful.
