How to Save Money at Vetco Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had a great first experience here, they were wonderful with my pup (aside from some confusing instructions for future care and high prices). When we tried to get her second vaccination dose and some other checkups, we accidentally scheduled another location. Showed up anyways thinking it wouldn't be a problem; apparently, PetCo does popup vaccination clinics that don't offer any other services? We went ahead to try and get her vaccination while we were there. Our pup has extreme anxiety and struggles with other doggos; the popup site had absolutely no protocol or resources to create a space for her to cool down so she could get vaccinated. I requested another room to let her regulate and drink some water. They suggested we go to the water fountain (with more dogs) and then offered us to sit in the hallway, blocked off with a cart while people and dogs passed because they couldn't get into the care rooms? So we left without her vaccination. Tried to schedule another visit to do her booster today at this location. Again, my pup struggles with anxiety and other dogs. It is very difficult to take her to social environments, especially with dogs. After originally scheduling the hospital, they told us to schedule the clinic. We scheduled the clinic and when we arrived, the lady at the front told us we had to go upstairs. I couldn't get anymore information while trying to regulate my dog and had to leave without a vaccination again. The amount of stress this has caused us, just trying to get a booster with PetCo is crazy; because they have us running around clinics that aren't all the same, with no support or resources for doggos like mine. We are giving up with PetCo at this point for something actually reliable and that will care for my pup's needs.

I took my puppy to the clinic for vaccines and they were great and the package prices were perfect. While i was there i made an appointment for a future date with the vet total care as well to check her ears. Susanna at the desk was so knowledgeable and sweet she even called me back to offer a sooner date.

The attending vet here was unprofessional. Came in for vaccines for my pet, and she did not perform the wellness check which is always done? Vetco, isn’t this done with every visit? How is it acceptable for the vet to not even speak to the clients that come in, if the dog is anxious tell them to calm it down to examine etc. What kind of service is this?

No one was at the front desk when I arrived. By the time someone came out several minutes later, it was 12 minutes past my scheduled appointment. To be fair, I arrived maybe 5 minutes late due to train delays, but I spent most of that overtime waiting to check in. Because of this, they refused to see my cat for her scheduled appointment, even after I told them she might have fleas and I took off work to bring her in. In the waiting area, there was a family with a dog, and the mother said they’d been waiting for over half an hour with no followup. Completely mismanaged and unprofessional. I rarely write reviews but I felt this one was justified. Bring your pets somewhere else.

They did NOT vaccinate my cat because they were on the 2nd floor of the facility, not an enclosed room, and were afraid it would run away. I told them to scruff the cat's neck, even reaching in to do it myself, but they wouldn't and the clinic downstairs with enclosed rooms wouldn't allow me to use one of theirs. Very unprofessional treatment & service and I would never use or recommend Vetco to anyone because of it.
