How to Save Money at Canyon Ridge Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is the only vet I trust to care for my pup, Elle! Dr. Mascaro, the vet techs, and the receptionists are always so wonderful to my baby. Dr. Mascaro, Erin, Veronica, Dr. Williams, and everyone else at Canyon Ridge thank you for your kindness, not only to Elle but also to me. You’ve been there for us through her diagnosis, and I can’t express how much that means to me. If you’re looking for a place that will love your pet as if they were their own, this is it. I’m so grateful we found Canyon Ridge. Some of the things I appreciate most about them include: • The cleanliness of the facility • Their transparency with pricing only recommending what is truly best for my pet. Unlike other vets who seem more focused on profit, Canyon Ridge genuinely prioritizes the care of your pup. • Their communication whenever I call, Erin is usually the one to answer. She is so empathetic, quick to find an appointment / solution, and always follows up with the vet techs or doctors to clarify any records / information that need to be sent over. She also is just so sweet to my elle, giving her lots of treats and love! Veronica is very knowledgeable, and also deeply compassionate. She takes the time to explain Elle’s care plan in detail, ensuring I fully understand every step. She’s always there to comfort elle during vet visits! I don’t know every vet tech’s name, but I have had the most amazing experiences with every single one of them. They are all so kind, patient, and gentle with Elle, and I appreciate them more than they know. Dr. Mascaro is the best vet I have ever met. I could write an entire essay on how incredible she is, but here are just a few things that I will never forget🩵: • The day Elle was diagnosed with cancer, she made time to see her immediately. She listened to me cry, heard all my worries, and spent over an hour with us. I will forever be grateful for the kindness she showed both Elle and me. • She is exceptionally knowledgeable. While not an oncologist, she took decisive action and started Elle on prednisone at a dose she was comfortable prescribing. When we later saw the oncologist, it turned out to be the exact dose recommended for Elle’s CHOP protocol. This is just one example of her expertise and how much she truly cares. If you have the chance to take your pup to Dr. Mascaro, consider it a blessing…because finding a vet that is so genuine, smart, patient, kind is really hard to come by, and she’s all of that and more!! Thank you, everyone at Canyon Ridge you all hold a special place in my heart! 🥹🩵

Less than impressed. While the staff was all very sweet (the front desk and assistant techs were great), their approach feels more like price gauging and less than honest practical options. I don’t doubt that they care, but the steps they suggest paying for prior to coming up with any version of a conservative treatment plan leaves a pretty bad taste. I’m still going through some health issues with a puppy who I established with them due to convenience in location, and have since had the SAME AND THEN SOME, tests and medications either consults, and paid less than half of what they’re charging here… would definitely recommend looking for a private place over a franchise type joint. 😬 Also the vet spent a fraction of the actual time in the room as one would hope.

Every single person at Canyon Ridge is extremely friendly and kind. The doctors are thorough and great at explaining all things so that I feel very comfortable making the best choices for my dog.

Canyon Ridge Animal Hospital is a hidden gem that has a warm and welcoming feel! Being tucked into a cozy neighborhood, we almost overlooked their office! For decades, we always went to the large scale vets that barely knew our name. We wanted someone more compassionate and personable to help us through a lifelong medical condition with our pup Mulan. All of the staff have treated us like family by going out of their way to ensure we are comfortable with her treatment. (My fur baby was recently diagnosed with Addison's disease.) Knowing that this medical condition is a bit pricey, the veterinarian assistant recommended pre-ordering Mulan’s medicine online to save money. (Advice we were not privy to at our former vet.) The receptionists are always accommodating at getting us a last minute appointment understanding that being a pet parent can be stressful, especially with a lifelong condition that we must always be on high alert! (We typically see them every month or so- all dependent if my fur baby is having any subtle signs and needs her medication adjusted.) We are relieved that they have allowed all treatment (bloodwork, shots, etc) to be taken care of with us in the examination room; no stressing her out by moving her into another room! One last thing to mention is that their prices (office visit, bloodwork, and medicine) are lower than what we have encountered with other veterinarian offices! We are so blessed to have found a new veterinarian that understands we only want the best for our pup and will go to the end of the world to get her the care that she deserves!! Thank you!
