How to Save Money at Pups @ Play Livingston

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been coming here since the day it opened under private ownership — and I’ve watched the service decline nonstop ever since it was sold. Recently, I boarded my two dogs. The website clearly states they’re open until 7 PM on Sundays, so I arrived at 5 PM — only to find the place locked up and dark. When I called, I was told “Corporate in Texas” owns the website and they just “rely on word of mouth” for the real hours. That’s absurd. For the record, the corporate owner is Destination Pet, based in Texas. They’ve been buying up small, independent pet businesses, cutting staff, downsizing services, and raising prices. The Montclair branch was still open that day — but when I asked for a refund for the night I had to board the dogs due to their false advertising I was flat-out denied. Their response? Essentially, “We don’t care.” Now it’s owned by private equity in Texas, and the focus is crystal clear: not the pets, not the customers — just the bottom line. Early closings, no more overnight stays, higher costs, and less staff. All so a few executives can get richer while service and care crumble. We’ve already cut back on how often we come here, but this was the last straw. I will make sure people know exactly what this place has become. If you value your pet’s care, look elsewhere.

This review is long overdue. We found Dr.Weiner about 3 years ago and followed him when he opened the vet clinic @ Pups at play. He is by the far the best vet I've had in my 20+years of owning dogs. He is knowledgeable and genuine. He checks in between their visits with specialists and is always available if you have any concerns or questions. His staff is also great!!! Can't recommend enough! Thanks for your care Pups @ play!

Today, I visited Pup and Play in Livingston to arrange grooming and a haircut for my son, Maximus. Upon arrival, I was informed that the staff had attempted to contact me, which was inaccurate as I did not receive any calls. Subsequently, my son's appointment was canceled, with the explanation that the groomers were fully booked, despite his scheduled appointment at 12:30 PM. Given these circumstances, I am hesitant to continue utilizing your services in Livingston for my son. I cannot recommend this establishment.

These are the most compassionate people on planet Earth. I've had three cats cremated at this location each time they took upon their self. Write me a sincere letter for each member of the family. Pet furry friend, I would recommend this place to anybody. They have the most compassion you've ever seen in your life. I would give it more stars, but there's only five you can give

Dr. Weiner and the staff at Pups@Play are outstanding. Dr. Weiner's Yorkie knowledge can only be obtained by actual experience. We traveled from Delaware so our Essex would be cared for by the best for her surgery. Thank goodness we did. Dr. Weiner is amazing. We knew we were in good hands immediately after meeting the Dr. and staff. Thank you to everyone who cared for Essex. We appreciate you!!
