How to Save Money at Hudson Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Finding a vet that you can trust that’s also affordable and accommodating is no easy task. With that being said, we couldn’t be happier with the level of care we have received by Dr. Dressel and staff in our first year of having Duke. Her attentiveness and compassion cannot be overstated. Highly recommend!

Hudson Veterinary Care is AMAZING all the Ladies here are so sweet, caring, and conscientious. We came here after leaving Banfield Animal Hospital. I can honestly say we're very happy with the switch. About two weeks ago after switching Lady Elliott's (my Lab Pitbull mix's) diet she was lethargic having diarrhea while sleeping in bed with me unable to walk correctly I was deathly afraid I was losing her as she is My Life, My Best Friend, My Everything, I called them at 2 in the afternoon and they got me in for a 2:30 appointment the same day with Dr. Barker they did labs and x-rays and found out the food switch is what caused her to be feeling sick treated her with fluids, a prescription for her food back with probiotic powder, and brought my puppy back to her Spunky Puppy self. This was our second amazing encounter with them after having a similar incident with our other rescue Gunnar months ago and can't thank the Team at Hudson Veterinary Care enough for being professional thorough and treating my Babies as if they were their own and correctly diagnosing the issues. I wish you guys A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. UPDATE: I bought my Lady in today to get a checkup and they are definitely one of the best Vets in the area I Highly recommend Hudson Veterinary Care!!!

Everyone has been so friendly and nice. We were able to bring our pets in whenever they have problems in a timely manner. The cat room is very nice and well kept.

I was treated like some kind of anti-vax nut job for asking a couple of very reasonable questions. 1. Why does this test need to be done? 2. How much is the test going to cost? These are not only reasonable questions, they shouldn't even need to be asked. They should volunteer this information. Asking doesn't mean I am questioning the credibility of their entire profession or making some kind of personal attack on them, it just means I that I would like some basic information about the service they are offering. They also sent me a completely unreasonable number of automated "reminders". When I told them to stop they called and left a scripted message (they claim it wasn't a robocall, but it seems like it was). When I told the receptionist about this and requested not to receive these they first claimed (reading a log from her computer screen) not to have sent more than 3 messages, then when I showed them the messages on my phone they said they couldn't do anything about it because it was automated. ___ I'm not sure why it is that in medical fields it has become standard practice to not explain the reasons for anything, or the cost of anything to customers before they agree to services, and to be nasty to them if they dare to ask such things. It's as if they expect that everyone should just agree to anything they suggest without knowing why or how much they will be billed. I'm also not sure why anyone thinks it's acceptable to harass customers with constant automated spam. A reminder the day before is welcome, a dozen automated messages I can't respond to is harassment.

All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. My puppy still gets excited going there which lets me know they treat him well. Dr Dressel is so sweet and focused on the best treatment for our puppy. Thank God!
