How to Save Money at AVC Concord Veterinary Emergency Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had a great experience with AVC. This is the first time I have used them as my dog was injured when my vet was closed. I had a positive experience, the staff seemed genuinely concerned about my pup, and surgery went well. They honored their estimate, and treated our pet with care. Thank you.

We had to make the tough decision to put our sweet Riley down yesterday and the staff at AVC in Concord was empathetic, caring and supportive. We have been bringing our pets for emergency care here for about a year and have had nothing but positive experiences. We will be switching to AVC for routine care as well. Thank you Dr. Kelloway and staff for always taking care of our fur babies and helping us deal with tough decisions. I cannot recommend this vet enough.

On Tuesday, September 15 between 6 - 7 pm, two of my dogs Carl and Peter befriended a young porcupine -- and came home chock full of quills on their bodies as well as in their mouths. We went directly to AVC and were greeted not only by a wonderful woman that doubled as an excellent technician but also as a receptionist. The Dr. on call was extremely knowledgeable, warm and friendly to my dogs and spent as much time as we needed with them. The clinic was sparkling clean and comfortable. The bill for the work on my two dogs was reasonable and thankfully the clinic takes Care Credit. I support this clinic and urge all who read this to visit. Thanks so much Doc !!

The folks here at AVC Concord are fantastic... this past holiday weekend, we were up to our family camp, about 100 miles from home, we live here in Concord, when we awoke to our four year old black lab Milo having a medical problem. On a Sunday of a holiday weekend.... with no local to us vets open, I drove up the street to make some phone calls... AVC was open, and eager to help me on the phone.. Milo and I made the trip back down to concord, giving the team at AVC a heads up we were in route... we were welcomed to a very nice facility and the most friendly staff... seeing how milo dose not like vets. He seemed comfortable here, with loving care. He was seen promptly, tests run, and sent home to continue the weekend. The staff called Wednesday to discuss the test results with us.. and we're AWESOME about the entire visit.. they also were very affordable, we will be using them for our future vet needs.. Thank you folks again, you folks saved the day!!

We brought our 11 year old Golden Retriever to AVC in March. He was failing, we were distraught and were unable to get any resolution from the two other vet offices we visited. The AVC staff and veterinarian were amazing with our dog, they were kind, thoughtful and immediately got to work on diagnosing our beloved pet. He stayed overnight and I was able to speak to the veterinarian (not a receptionist or tech) at anytime of the night. She took time to explain to us the gravity of his condition and thoughtfully answered our questions and concerns. It was an incredibly stressful event, but they did everything to make the process easier. I would recommend them 100%.
