How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Someone in the clinic went behind my back and changed my Pets ownership and continues to go against the guidelines and law in this clinic. No one has taken accountability for this. It’s scary to think this happened and the clinic is treating the situation so casually as if it was not an illegal issue. My husband is not the owner We’ve always taken M J to his appointments together.in the beginning it was just me. To date the clinic claims they don’t know who changed the ownership to my husband. After I found out they were allowing my husband to bring MJ in without my my permission or notifying me I went into the clinic and had ownership changed back, this just stated happening September of this year. Prior to this since MJ 1st visit as a new pup I would ALWAYS get a text notification to confirm any all appointments for me to confirm, my husband would ALWAYS ask me make MJs appointment bc he knew as owner it had to go through me. I know. I asked My husband if they changed ownership to him and he confirmed they did. Again no one talk to me at all and acted as if they had no clue how it happened. Is it or is in not illegal to do this ?!

I brought my leopard gecko (Cracker) here at the beginning of 2025 due to an upper respiratory infection and moth rot. I addressed both issues with the vet but was only sent home with medication for the respiratory infection. I noticed that one of his eyes was consistently gouped up with discharge and crusties and his mouth rot was more pronounced. A few weeks later I called and asked for a recheck, in which they did not honor, so I scheduled another exam through them and payed full price. I was sent home with no medications. I was told that in time the eye would be fine and to keep it clean from any debris and that he was not concerned with the mouth rot. I noticed Cracker wasn’t doing good and called again to try and get a recheck at a discounted price since I had brought him twice over the same issues and was told that since I wasn’t satisfied with their care I should find someone else to look at him. I spoke to one of petcos managers about the situation at hand and was told that “maybe it was his time”. I had spent $250+ on Cracker to be seen by them. Trusted them with my beloved 13 year old pet leopard gecko. All for him to die. I miss him very much. I have had him since I was a child. Trusted a well known place to help me with him but instead got turned away after their negligence. Do not bring your exotics here. They are a corporate, Monty hungry office that don’t value the people or animals that come into their office. I since then have made a report to the BBB and have been playing phone tag with the vet that over sees this location. Trying to come to a resolution of what happened. I have left my email, phone number as well as hours that I am available to talk before or after school and work. But not much of an effort has been made. I am extremely disappointed in the service that they have to offer.

Dr Arndt is awesome. He has been taking care of my fur babies for years. He is a great doctor and surgeon. I have 2 new fur babies now & Dr Arndt is so helpful with all my questions I have about them. My pups love going to the vet. When we walk in their tails are wagging and they bark to announce their arrival. Dr Arndt & his staff greets them at the door and give them hugs. I'm so happy that I can call them with any questions I have about my pups. These two puppies keep me busy. I am so pleased with the service and compassion I receive from Dr Arndt & the staff at Vetco. Awesome group!

I brought my special needs pup here for the first time today for acupuncture treatment and we had a wonderful experience. Although veterinarians and needles and handling are not on my pup’s list of favorite things, Dr. Arndt and his staff went above and beyond to provide a safe and compassionate experience for my pup, ensuring his treatment went very smoothly and was comfortable for him. My pup did even better than expected and got lots of love and pets during his treatment, which made him feel safe and trust them. I am very grateful for their loving care and we hope to continue bringing our pup in for acupuncture treatments regularly!

Wow. I cannot express how grateful I am to have brought my dog here. My husband and I spent hundreds of dollars and vet visits taking my dog to a different vet to figure out why she wouldn’t eat. We spent months trying to figure this out and were often told that she was just being picky. Within one visit here, the vet had an idea of what was going on, and after imaging at a follow up visit, she was finally diagnosed. The vet ensured to call me to give me an update on her during her imaging and the staff was so kind and good with my dog. We felt heard, respected, and most importantly, grateful that the team cared about our pup. I can’t recommend this place enough. What could have eventually become a fatal illness is now hopefully manageable!
